First time you ever experimented with self-harm?
First time I self harmed was actually when I was 12 years old. I used it as a way to feel better, and as a way to punish myself. I try to stop, and I do manage for a couple of weeks, sometimes even months, but somehow I relapse again. I don't really know what triggers it,and I don't know how to stop completely. I try to remind myself that I don't deserve to be hurt, and hopefully one day I'll overcome it.
@CoolRainboom hey...noone deserves to be hurt by anyone, especially by yourself. You sound similar to me, i started self harming when I was about 12 when I saw that my 'friends' were actually just using me (doing homework for them, 'borrowing' my stuff with no return, asking me to do favours which turnes out to be crime...) but I'm too nice, always say yes, even now. I started cutting myself with unscrewed pencil sharpener blades, then attempting suicide on and off until I was 16 (overdose mainly but also walking into traffic). I stopped for so long until recently (attempted to jump in front of a train 3 times at xmas 2019...couldnt do it though). Since that i've been cutting myself. They say you know who your true friends are during a crisis...lockdown has proved I'm repeating my life since I was 12.
When i was in high school my loneliness and depression got the better of me, so i tried to harm myself not by physical harm, but instead i tried to worsen my GERD condition. So instead of eating lunch, i do energy drinks, then time goes on for about 3 months and then finally my stomach wall is scarred, i got hospitalized for almost two weeks, after that i dont know how, but fortunately the situation got better, because i can handle the pain (loneliness and depression)
hmm think when was teen
idk not remember
myb 17...
Sunday... Literally 2 days ago.. I don't know why I did it.. I got a razor blade to my thigh, it wasn't deep but it stings... I really don't know why.. I hope I don't do it again.. just going through a super tough time at the moment!
My first time was at 18, which was a little late, I guess. I was hospitalized (bc of my ED) and couldn't ride my bike (bc of my ED too), so I had to figure out something to do about my bad feelings and such. Then I began to me burningcuts with my nails. Half a year later it grew to 'real' cutting. First with a pocket knife, but later on with razors.
The first time I don't think I thought a lot about it. I just did it. Or wait, I was wrong. My first atemp of self-harming was hitting my head against a wall. That was the first. But the first 'real' atemp of self-harm was the burningcuts.
I started when I was 13 or 14. I still struggle with it to this day. I am now 23. It started wutw a had a broken piece if gkass, then knives. I for some reason always preferred knives...which it doesn't help that I love knives, throwing knives or neat/nice looking knives. BUT yesterd when my bf was at work and I was home dealing with a lot inside, and not telling anyone. When I want to self harm there is no stopping me, unless I decide. Yesterday I wanted to so bad and almost did, but I googled a self harm help line and this site came up. Thanks to this site and it's "listeners" I reached out to someone about it and for the first time it helped so much talking about it I had ended up NOT doing it. Proud as fuck.
@GabriellesreRose
thats so great that you didnt do it
@GabriellesreRose total respect and congrats on not doing it. I found 7 cups via a dont self harm video on youtube...so thankful i joined
When I was ten I broke my compass ( the kind you use to draw circles in maths with the point on one end ) I wondered what would happen if I scratched myself with it so I held it like a pen and drew a line across my arm. It ripped multiple layers of skin but never drew blood however it really stung. That stinging feeling felt so good so I kept doing it but only ever on my right arm because I am left handed and I didn
@XwonderlandgirlX i know how you feel. im sorry you had to go through that.
When I was 12 I broke my compass ( the kind you use to draw circles in maths with the point on one end ) I wondered what would happen if I scratched myself with it so I held it like a pen and drew a line across my arm. It ripped multiple layers of skin but never drew blood however it really stung. That stinging feeling felt so good so I kept doing it but only ever on my right arm because I am left handed and I didnt want people to notice. Over the years I have used lots of things including scissors, shards of plastic, pens ( ballpoints actually really hurt ) and recently I have been using a broken metal hair grip which is very sharp. I have only ever drawn a spot of blood because I have never been able to get my hands on anything sharper and would be too nervous but it is so tempting to brake my razor for the blade sometimes
when i was around 8 i was being bullied and i would tear at my arms and face with my nails to feel releif. i didnt realise it was self harm because i didnt know what self harm was. when i was 12 i hit myself after being physically abused by some schoolboys on a bus. throughout the years of high school i managed to remain mostly clear of it until year 9, when i began tearing at my stomach and back and then eventually my wrists. i knew that what i was doing was bad, but again i didnt know that i could become addicted. the stinging and burning sensation of dragging my nails and other sharp metal objects across my skin brought relief. i was a few months clean, and then i started again, because i felt so much self loathing due to the development of an eating disorder. i havent been able to stop since, and only recently admitted to a few close friends that i self harm. the most severe extent of my self harm would have to be cutting my ankles and feet, which i have only done once, and that was recently. self harm terrifies me and my experiences of it are dull in comparison to others but i know my story will not go unheard. for all of you struggling and fighting self harm, i am sorry, and you are so strong to have made it this far. dont stop fighting.
@anabellamia1189 sorry, i was trying to reply to the above post and create my own post at the same time.
6th grade. Life felt too difficult and I couldn't adapt to the changes in my life. I was not being myself, befriending people who weren't good for me. It was my only outlet. I didn't know how to talk to anyone. It helped me felt pain. Later on, some friends talked to me about their experiences with sef harm. It was a wake up call for me. I realized it didn't help me in any way. I knew I had to deal with my situations differently. In the end, it even helped me talk to even more people who were harming themselves. Why they do it, what makes them do it. It is truly important to seek help and find a community who you can relate to and share your vulnerabilities and struggles with. It's okay. There are tons of options, tons of help. Be open and know that you are not alone.
When I was in 7th grade and got my first "boyfriend". He cut and I told him if he didn't stop that I would start doing it too. Little did I know, that threat would be made to me years later because I was the one who couldn't stop.
