First time you ever experimented with self-harm?
I don
I struggle with being a trans teen in an unnaccepting community and face issues with family who simply dont understand. I have had thoughts of suicide and self harm long before trying it and finally decided to go through with it. One night i went to my restroom and found a new cheapy shaving razor in the drawers, I pried away most of the plastic around the blade and cleaned it. I tried to make a cut but was clearly too scared, but when i cut deep enough to draw blood, I felt so much better seeing it, so i cut one more time, and one more time. Until my first time ended up being 20+ cuts on my thigh, they werent super deep and werent gushing blood, but they did bleed a bit. In the past i would smack myself with my hands, or belts, rulers, etc. because i loved the stinging sensation, my cuts gave me that feeling for a long time though, so the action was addicting. I dont reccomend it to anyone but I cant judge anyone for it either, the physical feeling isnt the bad part its the guilt you have afterwards.
Im 14. My mental health is crumbling away along with my friendships and sanity. I dont cut as of yet but definitely could and probably will. I want it to stop but I dont think any amount of counselling will help me this time.

im so sorry this is happening to you. it's not something anyone should experience. please try and find some coping methods that aren't cutting or other forms of self-harm. it's addicting and soon it becomes the only thing, it controls your life. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, and your post says you have a lot going on already. please don't add cutting or self-harm to that list. I'm sure you deserve none of it.
Year 9 i used to get my smart pen for my computer and 'draw on my skin' by scratching the skin or not drawing and just scratching up and down my arm so that it left a mark for about a day and felt kind of like a burning sensation, I only started cutting about 2 months ago (year 10 now).
@karma17
im sorry, this is happening to you. I know how hard it is to break the habit of scratching and cutting. it's a tough battle and it's very addicting. the burn and sting can sometimes be the only way for release, but there is always another option.
5 years ago i'm 16 i was in primary school and was struggling and am struggling with depression i was hiding it took a toll on me i started to punch walls cutting my self
sorry if it isn't well written i have dyslexia
Well at first I used to slap myself whenever I felt like I did something bad and deserved it... then a couple months ago the middle of September.. I started to cut..
its actually really stupid but i started doing it to fit in with my friends who were dong it and i got addicted and attempted suicide so i went to a mental health instituition for a month or two and stopped i was clean for 4 years then relapsed for a few months and stopped and i was clean for another 3 years until alot of family stress happened and i relapsed two weeks ago and im afraid ill do it again so im here
@itidc
hey, no matter what your reason is for self harm, it is valid. You matter and so do your feelings. You are strong and will get through this tough time. When I first self harmed, I did it to feel pain. I was in a time in my life that felt like I was going nowhere, and no purpose, and I felt so numb. We are all in this together. Please if you need to talk more I am here.
@Ecargrace that's really good information for some people well done
@Ecargrace
Thank you so much! It means alot! and I'm here as well for you, sending positive vibes your way!
@itidc
Well done for talking about this! Have you thought about trying counselling or therapy to give you coping strategies and what to do if you relapse?
@comfortableSummer2144
Ive actually been in counseling for years but I quit because I achieved my goals and I moved to another country and I'm trying ot get everything set up here and then I'm going back. Thank you so much
I was going through depression for a long time and it feels like it is resurfacing but it would hurt so much the emotions and the feeling and deep thinking that I don't know how initially maybe just to stop myself from bursting out or cry I would pinch myself and then started scratch with nails sometimes leaving a mark for days and then I would just take knife or scissors and would cut till I saw blood and like a snowball effect one time I tried to drown myself but couldn't keep long and then once I just pressed my hands to my throat and then I got a headache and things went blur. And I left it there but one thing that it made me realize was that physical pain doesn't matter and is nothing compared to mental pain. And that is why to everyone reading this I would like to tell you that I know that physical pain can help you take your mind off of what you feel but it definitely isn't the answer and that is why I am trying to control my actions. Cause mental health can be treated by the methods for it not by this.
It's actually really stupid but in 7th grade I started self harming to fit in with my friends and I wish I didn't. I eventually had to get clean as my mental health deteriorated and I attempted suicide. I was hospitalized and got the help I needed, well 4 years after being clean my first boyfriend came back into my life and he was SUPER TOXIC!! I ended up starting sh again for a few months till I was caught and got clean again. I was clean for another 3 years till I had a huge panic attack and disaccociated and didn't really realize what I did till after I did it. I currently 2 or 3 weeks clean.
@itidc
oh whoops i didnt realize i posted twice on here idk how to delete a post lol
I don't remember where it happened, either in the bathroom or my bedroom. I don't remember my age either but I was around 12. I do remember that i did it with a pair of green scissors and that the pain afterwards was like fire. I remember feeling so disgusted with myself looking in the mirror at what I had done that i cried more than while I was doing it. The marks looked so angry and red, i could almost see the heat coming off of them. I imagined what my mom would say and got so scared even though I had done it on my thighs so no one would see. That feeling of hopelessness and desperation to show my anger and sadness had manifested itself in the worst way possible. I didn't want anyone to see what I had done and the fear of someone finding out kept me from wearing anything but pants for a whole month. I guess on some level I wanted someone to finally see what I couldn't say but I would have never done it. I guess I did it because I didn't know what else to do. I wanted to know that i was really in pain, because I didn't know how to cope with the confusion of thinking that i was exaggerating everything that happened to me. I had wanted control and to be able to lash out. I couldn't get it anywhere else and my body was the only place I thought I could lash out without consequences as long as I kept it a secret.
