it was last year in maybe November I had thought about it a lot before and had even tried it with a kitchen knife and it hadn't done anything. When I first did it I didn't cut far enough for blood and I had cut on my arms. I remember that I just wanted to do it more.

The first Time I intentionally self harmed I was 14 and alone in my bedroom, I wanted to try it since I always heard people saying that cutting made them feel better. I broke a pencil sharpener and used the blade from that to cut my arm, I was kind of nervous at first since my mum may have walked in on me. After I did it I didn't feel depressed but instead felt happier and relaxed. Before that I never would have imagined It would get this serious and 2 years later im still doing it. I've tried to stop so many times but I feel as if im addicted to cutting myself. I feel like I need help but im too scared to ask anyone in person. Can someone please help me?

@Fatman22

There's no shame in asking for help. But this place has so many people who can help. I think honestly as cheesy as it sounds you really do have to take it one day at a time. And find alternatives. That's what helped me stop. Also remember that relapse is a part of recovery. Make yourself accountable to someone like a listener or a close friend you can trust. Keep your hands busy. Draw a "tattoo" sleeve on your arm if need be. Maybe try talking to a guidance counselor at school? I wish you luck on your road to recovery and healing

I was 12 and I remember my friend came to school and she was so happy. As we were dressing for gym, I noticed the cuts on her arms and i decided to trt it because it made her happy. I went home and did it on my thighs and I've never been able to stop no matter how much I tried.

I was 15 when I started. I went from being a straight As student to being a straight Ds student. I wanted to try cutting because people told me how it can release inner pain. So I did try it and it felt great. Now I'm in my early 20s and I can't stop.

I started actually cutting when I was 11 or so, maybe a little younger, but I was hurting myself since I was 8. It started with the death of my Grandfather after watching him die but not getting g a chance to say goodbye.

It was when I was about 12-13 but I didn't realise it was self harm as u was just hitting myself and punching stuff. But then I started cutting and intentionally trying to draw blood and cause pain.

It's difficult to say when I really started harming myself. I started cutting when I was 15 but harming myself started much earlier. I always had a desire to be ill or hurt for getting love. I pushed my foot so it was swollen and told it was an accident when I was about 10. I wished to be sick and went out with wet hair in the winter... but I hardly got sick. I still have a good working immune system.

Now that I wrote this I feel ashamed because now after all this years it feels crazy and I just realised that my depressions must have started when I was really young for thisdiseasee

At age 13 I accidentally cut myself when angry at my sister, this led to me scratching and clawing at my own flesh rather than hers. In the end I cut for any overpowering emotions

It was around about my last year of primary school, a lot was going on in my life at that point. I just felt like self-harm was the only way. I started with needles and engraving tools then i managed to unscrew a sharpner and i started to use the blade of the sharpner. It got worse for there on :/

@Hideko14 the first time i ever was with a knife from the kitchen, my parents left and it had been an idea for quite a while. i finally decided to get through with it. hurt like hell (excuse me). i told myself never again, but then i went back to it a few days later, then again, and again, this time with a razor i had found. i always told myself never again after wards but a few hours later i would be upset or pissed at something and would run back because it gave me a sense of control and letting go of all my problems

@Hideko14 sadly the first time I recall purposely harming myself was at age 5. I would pinch the hell out of myself, leave bruises because I couldn't handle emotions that I felt. It ranged all over the place all the way through high school. It's been 9 years since I've purposely harmed myself. I have dermatillomania where I pick at my skin, sometimes I think self harm mixes into that.

I started at a young age, not realizing how unhealthy it was and not understanding fully, by pinching myself really hard or picking my scabs. That was it for years. A year ago it escalated when that wasn't enough and I turned to blades :/ it's gone further downhill from there
