First time you ever experimented with self-harm?
I don't really remember the first time I experimented with it. In school, I think my first year of high school, I caught my best friend using a key to carve something into his forearm and I sort of panicked. After that, things for myself weren't too great and I used the end of a pencil, where the eraser used to be to scrape at the skin on wrist. But I never broke skin.
Fast forward quite a few years, my last year of high school, I'd become socially withdrawn, reserved, and became extremely depressed, and used a pen lid to scrape at my wrist. Then moved onto a razor that I'd pulled apart to get the blades. I think I was 17 when I vividly remember actually breaking skin and bleeding.
My first time experimenting with self harm was in 7th grade. I would scratch my arms until they were red and puffy. I would also pull out my hair and pick scabs.
I have never used a cutter or scissors to hurt my self but I use my nails and I keep it extra long so it can hurt and today I just want to cut my wrist so I bleed out and I don't have to live anymore
@Laura When I was young, I kept on feeling sad without knowing why and the only way I can release the stress and tension through small cuts which formed scars now. There are no tigers without scars, and everyone here is so brave and strong. Keep on the good work
My first was when i was 6 years old. I undid my shoe laces and ran in gravel in attempt to fall and graze my knee. Later that day i started hitting my head with books until i felt sick and holding my breath/punching myself in the stomach till i puked.
I started self harming at 13. I came home crying from school because I've been bullied. I founf a box cutter and I made some cuts on my wrists, enough to draw some blood. Then I just kept going, and now I'm almost 17 and I'm still trying to stop. The worst thing is that my body is full of ugly scars, but it's my past.
@whisperingtodeath I wish I could give you a big hug! You have been through hell but here you stand, ready to move on from the past and take on a new day. You are amazing, I hope you know it.
I was 14 and I had been having a lot of trouble with self esteem issues. I skipped P.E. every week because it made me so uncomfortable. So one day I told my teacher I had forgotten my kit. I wasn't the only one, my best friend, 2 close friends and another girl had said the same. The teacher gave us all a lecture, but I got it worse because I had skipped P.E. more than anyone. After about 10 minutes of him yelling at us (mainly me), he told us to split up (my school had 3 gym halls and their were classes in them all so he wanted 2 of us in one hall, 2 in another and someone alone in the third hall). Naturally, I turned to my best friend, thinking we'd go to one of the halls together. No. Her and one of my close friends couldn't seem to get away from me fast enough. The other 2 went together as well, leaving me alone for 2 hours. For those 2 hours, I thought about every single tiny thing I hate about myself and cried. When I went to my dads that night, I was alone and cried some more. Then I broke a pencil sharpener and cut myself. I'm 18 now and I'm still hurting myself every night. I really think if I wasn't alone for those 2 hours I wouldn't have cut that night. Maybe I never would've cut myself.
I was 13 when I started and used sissors and scratched my while body until I was completely red and burning now I have stopped bc it went to really bad cutting that leaves scars that never will go away.
The first time I tried self harming was when I was 13. I heard from one of my friends that a mutual friend from elementary school was self harming. I honestly think that I was mostly curious if I could intentionally harm myself. Turns out I could and I liked it. I have struggled with self harm off an on since then. It got really bad senior year of highschool. I was self harming everyday and the cuts were deep like I probably should have gotten stitches deep. It's improved in the last year, but I still can't seem to stop.
@hiddendarkness13

Well try to have a good day today! And everyday after

I did it when I was 12. I scratched myself with my nails and pinched my arm till it was completely red. I was very angry and it helped calm me and I began to enjoy it. I did not want to stop then but later I got very panicked and couldn't control my emotions. I talked to the counsellor and when my friends knew they insisted on helping me however they could. I still feel impulses now and then but it's better.
I was 8 and I would starve myself and make myself throw up. I then moved on to cutting and scratching aswell when I was 11 I'm 14 now I still can't stop. I just feel like I deserve it even though I don't.
@Grlscout I'm so sorry
