I'm really bummed out...
I was receiving some support from another in a thread that I made. I noticed that they responded back but when I went to read their response, my message and their message was gone (along with the previous message they had sent). There was nothing inappropriate in the messages, so I'm positive that it was not removed by a forum mod.
I don't mean to rag on the site, but this issue with messages disppearing has been going on for a LONG time now. I've helped numerous members in the past who have had this issue and I'll tell you what, it sucks to have this happen. I know it's a site glitch, so I try to reassure newer members that it is not their fault but even knowing that myself, it hurts. I don't reach out very often and when one of your messages are suddenly gone, it feels awful. Yes, I'm well aware that I can speak to someone to retrieve the messages but shouldn't this issue finally be resolved?
This really is a very serious issue, I'm just asking for someone to figure out what's going on. Thank you for reading.
P.s. I've intentionally not tagged any of the site managers but if anyone reads this and feels inspired, feel free to. I'm just fed up and sad this is still an issue today.
@TrueArrow i believe it was deleted by a mod and, regardless, being given the tools to deal with issues like this is probably my #1 request.
i don't think any of the information required to look into this is available in any meaningful way based on my experience.
i have seen things that do not contain offensive material go away without explanation, but there has always been some sort of suspect behaviour surrounding at least one of the people involved in the conversation that leads me to believe that these are mod overreactions.
anyway, i literally just brought up a related issue this morning with unicorn and this will be included as one of the few things in my weekly-ish report. don't hold your breath, but we *will* get to the bottom of this.
@TrueArrow after a chat with unicorn, please provide me with the link in question privately and i will make sure this specific issue is looked into and get back to you.
@bunnypants
I mean it's possible it was deleted by a mod, but it just seems highly unlikely since I'm 100% sure it did not contain anything bad or offensive. It seems to truly be a site glitch (I've heard it mentioned once that maybe the spam detection system glitches and since this was written earlier today when spam tends to be the most crazy, I'd say it has to do with that). I'll none the less give you the thread link in private though so it can be looked at.
Thank you for talking to krink about it!
I hear you, it's frustrating!
@AffyAvo i've looked into this extensively and while the problem shows up very, very rarely, it is kinda high profile, so i'll be touching base with forum mentor leaders and at the very least we will be updating the thread deletion process to be much more transparent.
i have already picked up the task of monitoring and communicating most official deletions to those affected, and will be creating a resource that explains as much as possible about post reviews leading to deletions and gives people who report issues like this a clear resolution.
i would like to completely eliminate what i perceive to be a hole in moderator oversight, but the difficulty in doing so might not be worth the effort. i will make it clear right now that it is fully possible to investigate these issues and identify any misbehaviour, but access to the information required is necessarily very limited due to privacy concerns.
what we will probably end up with is a standardized, transparent deletion process and available resources that give people a better idea of what's going on in the first place so that if any of these issues do crop up, admin team can quickly identify any involved parties and take whatever steps might be necessary to address anything questionable and make sure there is happiness all around ^-^
i should add that it is of course impossible to communicate specifics about incidents, but it will be possible in most cases to let people know, hey, this thing happened and you were affected and it's totally legit we're sorry but don't fret <3

@bunnypants
I'm super happy to hear this! I think a bit more transparency with the thread deletion process, as you put it, may resolve the deletion issues. Whether it be a wrongful deletion or a glitch in site, it'll definitely help get to the bottom of the matter(s). Thanks for the update.
also it should be noted that the specific issue that triggered this thread was resolved privately.
also i am on the trail of any possible glitches that might be contributing factors. :P
