Members: I Have A Question For You!

As you may already be aware, the listener side of 7 Cups is a bustling land of opportunity! In addition to listening, listeners can get involved in numerous projects, join various teams, and learn and grow within new roles (like peer support, moderating and mentoring). We're aware that right now, there is a lot less opportunity on the member side and we're feeling a little bit bad about this. sad

So far, we've offered members the opportunity to lead discussions and to become Welcome Guides... but at 7 Cups we believe that you are actually the experts on you. With that in mind, it makes sense to just hold our thoughts for a moment and ask the experts themselves!

╰☆╮If you could create a new role or project on 7 Cups for members to get involved in, what would it be?╰☆╮

✦ It must be something that you would like to do as a member.
✦ It's absolutely okay to think outside the box and be creative.
✦ And that's all! :)

Please post your thoughts and ideas below. I'm excited to hear what you come up with!

It would be great if each person could have a personal journal, don't know if possible

@Birdwatching Would this be public or private? I'm kinda visualizing an option on your profile to create ongiong stories of multiple posts. Eg so ppl can follow your journey.

@Heather thank you for involving members in some teams! It's great that you're reaching out to us to do this :)

we need peer supports for members, for when a listener monopolize the chat talking about their issues or blame us for our feelings.

i think it would be a nice project that all members of 7 cups post something or someone tthey are afraid to say it could be a story or whatever, a story where they can express their fears or simply just that thing that they cant stop thinking about

I think it would be really cool if there was a "rant" kind of personalized journal. That can calm your thoughts and just get everything out of your system. And at the end you could decide to make it public or stay private

@Heather I have a idea that ive been thinking of for a long time.. I know it is against the rules to give advice including about medicine but what about self help advice to calm anxiety. Examples of things i personally used so you can get what i mean.

Zen tangles is a form of artistic doodling that you dont even need to be a artist to do.. It is creating swirls and shapes in a box or a heart or something that helps meditate and calm down the brain from anxiety.

Aroma therapy One time i took some orange peels and I brought it to a boil.. I added 4 caps of vanilla extract and let the orange peels soak.. it created a amazing smell almost like a orangecicle pop.. and id take that and close my eye and smell the peels counting back from 100 to calm myself

If you are a musician and play woodwinds during panic attacks i force myself to play the flute to control my breathing

The list goes on and on with calming techniques you can do at home that can better fit the person concidering their interests or things they can try personally for themselves.. This advice does not seem harmful to the person being as it is self help and something they can try at home to calm their anxiety instead of popping a pill that can have massive side effects. I personally use self help techniques alot in my daily life along with proper therapy and proper meds perscribed to me but on those days the meds and cant get to therapy it helps :) Something like this can be very helpful to others and alot of these meditive and calming techniques they mabye havnt heard of.. I have experiemented with hundreds and found thousands of things online to try.. it depends on the person or if it interests them if they want to try that but that is the same with them reading any other self help thing or trying the meditation tracks on 7 cups.. it helps me yes but mabye not everyone. Mabye brodden some helpful techniques by coming up with some suggestions to relieve some stress and anxiety in the comfert of their own home...

I would loveeee, something in spanish if there's more members who speaks spanish it would be really awesome we have the chance to express our feelings in our native language. I mean, I don't have problem with english, it helps me to practice a foreign language but sometimes I can express myself very clear because I don't know what word I should use (:

Many languages describe mental health differently too - I'm East Indian, and our native languages don't have a word of anxious or depression. Anxiety is translated to "something is happening in my body" and depression is "my heart is sinking". Dread is "my soul is half-cooked, part-raw". But I'm also American, so I feel unable to connect with my Indian support network that literally doesn't use the same words, and I struggle to connect with my American support network that doesn't seem to get how visceral my feelings are.

Just my two cents...

What if peer support were available to members as members... I know something similar was mentioned above but hear me out a sec... like keep things as they are but create a toggle on each person's profile so that if you BOTH click yes on each other - you are able to talk with each other and support each other, however it will NOT show that a person has requested to be able to message you... they'd have to either tell you in chat, on a forum, in their feed or something so that there are not people just clicking yes on everyone and spamming them with notifications in order to find someone to talk to.

... i'm sure this happens in forums, but i know in the chat rooms, there are people you speak with regularly in the room and after awhile, even though it says not to give away your other accounts, they will have your listener account because you grow close and you want to support each other better. Something like this would allow people to maintain their listener account confidentiality while still being able to support those they grow close with on the site.
