We have!! Square icons! Hooray! Such an important update! As well as playing with text box colors! Because it's not like spam is an issue anymore ;) It's not like newcomers see that and think 7cups endorses penis blaster 3000 or diet pill maxxxxxxx etc.

@Phthalo i'm sorry, this post upset me and i wandered away for a few hours.

the 7cups devs are very busy working all day every day to make improvements to every part of the site and apps. they are very overworked, and you should not cast aside minor quality changes so easily.

furthermore, it is tricky to negate spambots without either making the site harder or more annoying to use for actual human beings or just pushing the bots into worse places. this is an area where heavy-handedness would not pay off and could have repercussions for the life of the site. care must be taken.

but do keep in mind that there is a team of people behind this site trying their best, every day, doing what they think will be best for the members they serve.

@Phthalo Those spam bots are quite aggravating, huh? I wish there was a way to permanently get rid of them too. sad

This website will always have these priorities

1) money

2) traffic on the site

3) money

. . .

147) people's experience on the site

@reliablePark363 i'm not sure how you're translating the importance of a website being sustainable to its long-term or even current priorities, but my experience has been quite different.

they are doing what they can on a very small budget and i think they've done wonderfully so far =;~;=

i mean, i might be on drugs and crazy, but this place is all splendiferous, full of sunshine and happiness :o

you might hafta wiggle and work a little to finds that happiness, but wiffs teh right attitude, it'll be there for you every day! ^-^

@bunnypants @reliablePark363 I support 7 cups for the "most part" but I do think there is room for improvement. While I do not agree with reliable, I think there are some aspects of the site that unfortunately give off that impression (not purposefully but still..). However, 7cups is a business and of course as you said bunny, one of its focuses is sustainability. Otherwise it's services would be in jeopardy and the future of the site would be questionable.

I still find certain aspects of services here unfortunate due to poorly written disclaimers and terms of services. Censorship prevents me from elaborating.

@TrueArrow

I'm glad you both haven't had the same experience as me. That gives me hope that not everyone is being abused here.

However, all I've experienced on this website is

1) administration that doesn't care for their volunteers, members, or guests.

2) abusive listeners

3) abusive members and guests

@reliablePark363

I've definitely experienced abusive listeners and as a former listener, I've experienced abusive members. The problem is, it's hard to find a solution to end abuse on a website that maintains anonymity. I've seen people suggests IP bans but I guess some do not realize how easy it is to bypass, therefore it's not a real solution. 7cups heavily relies on the goodness of volunteers, and since it is a service you can sign up freely for, there is bound to be abuse. If you're waiting for that to change, sadly you'll be waiting a long time.

Unless you want to enlist the help of professionals, volunteers are not "really" bound to a code of ethics. Punishment for anonymous listeners/members doesn't hold a real sense of accountability for those who don't care. That's the price we pay and even though it's not all good, it's not all bad either. There are amazing listeners here, you just have to search for them. I've always said 7cups is a sort of social experiment that went wrong to a degree. Relying on the goodness of humanity will be flawed.

As far as the staff is concerned, I think their intentions are good but they aren't perfect. If you ever run into an issue with anyone here, it's important to report it. Yes, I realize you're probably going to say it doesn't help or they don't care but if there is serious abuse and you are able to provide proof, they'll take notice. Just remember, the staff is bound to treat any situation as they see fit in accordance to the rules. It would be wise to research how reports and abuse is handled. It'll give you some insight to the process.

Nevertheless, I'm sorry for your negative experiences here. I hope you're able to find a listener you like.

@reliablePark363 i have been here for almost four years and while i have seen some of what you're referring to, i can assure you that this site was not created with making money in mind. and i'd like to think that hasn't changed, past trying to pay the bills and small comforts.

certainly, though, they should be aware of their image. is yet another thing to constantly keep in mind.

it's just that when something you create gets so big and complicated and requires so much maintenance and there are all these voices and needs, well, that's very hard to maintain, don't you think? especially for a very small team with very big hearts.

they are tryings their best to do what is right and good, but in the end it is cowherding and people were never meant to be this polite, much less the mentally ill (myself included). this site is a miracle of social engineering tbh.

so, as always, all my love to the 7cups team (even though i will always smack you if i feel you're getting out of line).

@bunnypants

The site hasn't been running for four years.

If admin cared even a little bit they would initiate training for new listeners that is required to complete prior to chats.
