No LGBT training
Its a whole category out there for people to click on, but I am fairly certain many people don't even know what a transgender person is, or the ways sexuality can be more than just straight or gay. I think its verry important that there are guides to help educate listeners about LGBT people.
I agree wholeheartedly. From my experience, people-including myself-are discriminatory against the LGBT community not out of hatred but simply because of ignorance or misunderstandings. But I feel like this is an issue that people should be indoctrinated with and taught to understand from a young age, like how most children are taught that all races are equal nowadays.
In my high school, I had to take a semester of mandatory health class, but I wish that there were a unit that covered the beauty of all types of sexuality and gender rather than just preach an unlistened to abstinence agenda.
I'm gay, when i first joined 7cups to speak to listeners regarding my sexuality i found it extremely difficult to find someone. Listeners often replied with snide remarks when i revealed i was a male seeking lgbtq support.
I'm so sorry you had to deal with that from listeners who are supposed to be compassionate and helpful. I hope since then you've been able to find a better set of listeners to chat with!
It's interesting that this is mentioned here because I was just thinking the same thing! I don't exactly know who is in charge of that but I am willing to help create the training program if necessary. I think there is a need for this.
@UltraVioletNight <3 I love you for this thread. Thank you so much for raising your voice. I honestly wanted to do it but could not gather time for it. Am so happy that you did. Kudos dear.. kudos.
Yes 7Cups of Tea please introduce LGBTQ training.
How would we get the attention of someone who is in charge though, idk if they are going to look at this

I feel like more LGBT+ training would definitely be a good idea, because it's a category of it's own and has it's own whole chat, but there isn't even a basic training course for listeners to brush up on things, and a lot of listeners may not know the first thing about any of that stuff. I know I would definitely feel more comfortable if there was some training. I just try to steer clear of all of it, because I don't feel educated enough to take those issues.
Honestly, that is a great idea. There are many people who want LGBT help and I would like to help them, but its hard to give help when you don't have any training that can make you be able to help them out....
@5eternitiesofsmiles - You're absolutely right! Having some training to lean on can make it much easier to support people in areas you're not as familiar with.
You can always submit to the Listener Suggestion Box to have this reviewed by the leadership team! :)
