Problem: Welcoming New Users in Chat Rooms
Hey, I wanted to share with you a problem that we're trying to solve and a solution we'd like to try. Have a read through it and share your feedback!
Problem: New listeners and members entering group chat rooms don't always feel acknowledged or welcomed. They can find it difficult to get involved in the conversation and leave feeling unsupported.
Goals:
- Better identify new users in chat rooms quickly and easily.
- Ensure that new users feel welcomed and invited to participate in the conversation.
Solution: Make the Newbie badge appear in chat rooms, so that as a community we can quickly identify new users and make sure they get the welcome they deserve!

I'm not sure if this would solve the problem. Some of the chats tend to get clique-ish and being a new member means you have less integrity as a member if the chat and announcing that you're new can mean people will ignore you more. I think it would be better to maybe create a member welcome team (if there's not one) that encourages members to welcome other members. Plus, this would even the playing field with some members who listeners, especially mods, having too much power.

I agree that the chatrooms tend to get very cliquey. I've had my messages deleted by mods in chatrooms when they simply didn't feel like dealing with me, then sending the eye rolling emoji. So I totally understand what you're saying.

This Newbie badge sounds like a great idea, but it also could be good to have it linked to the number of chats (I mean in the chat rooms) that the user already has and not only the joining date! Because sometimes a user has been there for some time but never been on the "chat rooms" side so it's like being new (and lost) again despite not being actually new...

Great idea! I think this will better help us to acknowledge the new members of our community and do our best to make them feel welcomed and willing to dive in, if they are ready.
So as someone who's been here for a couple of months - I think that would be awesome!!! Also can you tell me where to find the events room? I keep seeing great trivia events there - but cannot find it anywhere?? I've messaged a couple of the folks hosting events there and never heard back. It's something I would love to participate in, but I haven't been able to find it anywhere, even during an event. Thanks!
@DragonFaerie hey :) the events room will open just before the scheduled event. It'll be in the list of chatrooms like every other chatroom :) hope that helps :)
@randommusingsofabrain THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I kept looking for it and could never find it. Had no idea it would only pop open at the time of an event!!!!
