On the sudden change to the front webpage
I decided to come to 7Cups this evening, only to see this pop up for the first time:
What is the nature of this change to the front page format?
Let me be clear about why I am asking, & why someone should answer the foregoing quiery...it's regrettable & sad that I have to post this. But it must be addressed nonetheless.
I understand the necessity of translation into other languages so that 7Cups is available to people in other nations who need it. Mental illness (& trauma in general) is not limited to English-speaking people, of course. Surely there are many Chinese, & others in the Far East, who are suffering & need an online sanctuary. They certainly have as much right to help for their problems as anyone else! Thus it is unfortunate that the current situation makes the format change a serious concern.
In light of the foregoing information, I must ask why 7Cups' front page now looks the way it does? I would like an honest answer to that. If someone can tell me why the page is suddenly full of Chinese characters when was all in English until now, I would appreciate it very much. Thank you for reading.
@slowdecline48 I tested my phone and laptop, signed out homepage is still English for me. Could it possibly be account or device settings?
@AffyAvo My account settings are for English as the primary language...don't know what that says about this confusion.
I'd still like to know if 7Cups--or more accurately, any of the servers that host the site--are anywhere in mainland China. If so, I may decide to cancel my account here. 7Cups is a great place & all but given the context described above, taking such risks would be most inadvisable.
@AffyAvo And oh look, a whole bunch of info was removed from the OP. It has to do with the ongoing tension between the American & Chinese governments over current hot-button issues as well as with online activity (particularly surveillance) by the latter. The screenshot is still up but the context that I supplied for it is gone. All of which is the reason I posted it in the first place. Now anyone who reads this will wind up totally confused instead of better informed.... *facepalm*
I have to wonder why the summary I typed up was removed from the post. Was it because of 7Cups rules about political subjects in open forum posts....or is there an unspoken reason? Is 7Cups still safe for citizens of western countries to use? Perhaps someone in management here would be kind enough to explain?...I certainly hope so.
