Anxiety

Hey everyone, so I am going through a lot of academic pressure, like you have this constant pressure to score excellent because that is what I have always been doing, being an outstanding student all my life. This time the mid terms did not go well, and I literally keep studying all the time. Like when my parents wanted to give me something new like a phone and I rejected it, just because I think I do not deserve it, I underperformed. I am getting my results in a few days and I am going through anxiety and I am not ready to hear about the teacher blabbing about how this time I could have done better and that I did not get a perfect grade. I feel like a disappointment right now.

Hey. I am sorry to hear that you're under so much academic pressure to get excellent grades. I can understand how disappointing it must feel when your results don't meet your expectations, especially when you've always been an outstanding student. However, I think it's important to remember that you don't have to be perfect, and your grades don't determine your worth. You still deserve nice things, even when things don't go as planned. It sounds like you've been putting a lot of effort into your studies, and that matters, too. Can I ask, do you feel that most of this pressure comes from within yourself, or is it also coming from the expectations of people around you?

It sounds like you are carrying a massive amount of pressure on your shoulders right now, and I can hear how deeply exhausting and anxiety-inducing this waiting period is for you. When you have been an outstanding student your whole life, it is incredibly easy to tie your entire self-worth to a letter grade [health]. Failing to meet your own high standards—or underperforming on a single midterm—can feel completely shattering.

Please try to be gentle with yourself. You are dealing with real burnout, and refusing things that bring you joy, like the phone from your parents, as a form of punishment shows just how hard you are being on yourself. One set of exams does not erase years of hard work, nor does it make you a disappointment. True excellence includes giving yourself permission to be human, to have off-days, and to rest. The anxiety you are feeling about your teachers' comments is completely valid, but remember that their feedback is just about a snapshot in time, not a reflection of your potential or your value as a person.

I am here to support you through this stressful waiting period, and you don't have to face this anxiety alone.

@quitebeach2504 I can see how much pressure you’re putting on yourself to maintain the high standards you’ve always had academically. As a student myself, I can understand how stressful it can feel waiting for grades, especially when you’ve worked really hard and the results might not reflect the effort you put in. It sounds like doing well academically means a lot to you, and I can imagine it’s difficult when that becomes connected to whether you feel deserving or proud of yourself. Thank you for being open about how you’re feeling.
