I don’t know what to study in college
I just graduated high school and college is starting for everyone else. I’ve been so stressed since I moved across the country and I’ve barely looked at colleges. I have no idea what I even want to major in college to begin with. Nothing sounds interesting and I don’t have the slightest clue as to what I want to do as a career path.
I’m looking into a nearby community college as of right now and then going to transfer to the bigger 4 year college after. Should I just go for the most interesting major??
There are ones I’m interested in learning and the classes sound fun, but nothing I’d like to do as a career.
I had the exact issue 5-ish years ago and i’d suggest looking into careers or just jobs you think you would want to do after graduation and choosing a major based on that! i always had a hard time believing i can simply change my career path in the future when i was that age but try to keep in mind that what you decide won’t be forced on you for the rest of your life :) you can always go back to school or just have a different career later on based on your experience alone
What subjects were you interested in high school? Or subjects that you got good grades on? Based on what courses you liked in high school, you can look at courses offered at the college. See if it's something you'll enjoy learning more about.
It's okay for you to not know what you want to be doing as a career when you are fresh from graduating high school. You have a long road ahead of you, and not everyone knows what they want to be doing as a career right off the bat.
For myself, it took me a few jobs before I got into the career I'm doing now. I had to go back to school for it, get a Certificate, and really loved my job in the beginning (3 years ago). Now, I'm looking to change my career and is working towards that. So, when it comes to career, unless you're clear from the start in what you would love to be doing for the rest of your life; then, those people will be able to choose a major they want to study. But, if you're still in the stages of discovering what you'll feel passionate about as a career, take your time to explore. Take a course in all the different field of studies, and see which class catches your interest the most. (Of course, this would only work if you're financially stable). Otherwise, just take courses on what you feel will be interesting. Then, go from there~

As someone who has changed their mind a LOT about jobs/courses/studying etc I just wanted to stress that this decision can always be changed. What you decide now might have a huge effect on your future or it might not! Whatever you decide to do will be the best decision you make, honest.
That said here are a few things that have helped me decide things in the past
- youtube 'what I wish I knew before' videos on jobs that you might be interested in
- go and volunteer in a place that interests you
- think about what you're naturally drawn to, what do you spend your time doing? What non-fiction books do you read? What documentaries do you watch?
- figure out what you'd like from a job and rank them in order of importance e.g. working hours, location, lone working vs team, busy vs calm etc
- look at job boards, reading job descriptions of all kinds might inspire you and you'll also see what the requirements are
Failing all of that, go with the subjects that you find interesting. You'll do a lot better if you find it interesting rather than go with something boring because it might be useful later on.
