Study Motivation

May 19th, 2023

Studying requires dedication, focus, and perseverance. However, maintaining motivation can be challenging at times.

Here are some tips to help you stay motivated and achieve your study goals:

1) Start small
It can be overwhelming to think about all the syllabus at once. Starting small can make a huge difference.
You can start with an easy topic of an easy chapter of an easy subject.
Taking the first (small) step is what makes all the difference.

2) Test yourself
Once you have gone through the topic, you can give yourself a small 5 minute recall test.
There is no disadvantage of testing yourself.
If you remember it well, your confidence gets a boost.
If you do not remember it, you know what topic is a "must revise" before the exam

3) Make a "Must revise" list
The topics that you found challenging need to be added to this list. You can include the page number or hint or formula or shortcut to help you make it easier to find it for an overview.

4) Pace up
As you complete a few topics and tests, increase the number of topics per test. Everyone has a different pace. You will find your comfy pace in a few study sessions. If comfortable, keep increasing your pace until you complete 50% of the syllabus.

5) Half and Half
Once you reach the 50% mark, it's time to slow down a bit.
Take a little break and test yourself on the 50% syllabus that you completed.
If needed, add topics to "must revise" list or do an overview.

6) The second leg
With 50% of the topics and tests done, you will feel ready to take charge on your own.
Fact: In most exams, you can attempt 75% of the paper if you have studied 50% of the syllabus.
With that in mind, you can pass easily. That stress is gone.
Now, it's up to you, how higher you want to go..
You will know on your own, what kind of topics you need to go slow with and which topics you can pace up.
Take your comfy time with the remaining syllabus and keep studying, testing and listing the same way we did before.

7) Revise
Prior to exam, the only thing that you should be looking at is the "must revise" list.
Which means, no new topics to be studied on the day of the exam.

I hope these tips help you all as they helped me. All the best 🧡

Question for all:

What would you say to a student/friend who is finding it hard to start (or stay motivated) in their studies?

@DonaldDraper

Wow this is a great list of helpful tips (tried and tested fosho😛), thankyou for sharing, Donzieee! 🧡

To a friend I'd be more assertive usually xD "Just sit and study bruh, we can cry after the exam/ degree/ any goal in mind" lol! (half serious :P)

Sometimes for somethings in life, specially exams or similar, by hook or by crook, you just gotta keep everything aside and sit down to study, there's no short cut or "flattery" stuff here, sadly! :')

Make schedules if it works, set goals, prioritize what's important, find a study partner, take breaks too when needed~ our brain can only take as much in, give time to yourself also. Whatever it takes! <3

For me, for most things in life, having a clear "why"/ "what for"/ "how will it impact me/my life" and similar questions carry the motivation in itself. Intrinsic motivation >>>

Your motivation to "finish" is always hidden in your motivation to "start", I feel. "Why" did you start when you did, there will be times when we lose track of this one and there's distractions, or just life happening in between but circling back and redefining our "why" is always important, circle back and re-track yourself as many times needed.

You got thissss!❤

@Sunisshiningandsoareyou , hello Sun , just wanted to peek in and tell you how awesome your Idea of intrinsic motivation is . " 'Why'/ 'what for'/ 'how will it impact my life' - is definitely gives one a strength to go on most of the times .

My words to a friend -

"Hello there , studies are getting hard isn't it ? I know , it's not pleasant. Remember the goal , the reason why you started off, and what waits for you after it's done , okay ? Take super care of yourself too. And always know we love you no matter what . "
