Finding balance in a busy schedule!
Hi everyone and happy Friday! I know summer break is starting for some students by now but I also know that summer break sometimes means more work. Whether you're self-studying for the next semester's subjects like I am or participating in online volunteer programs, I wanted to make a forum post about finding balance in a busy schedule! Busy schedules can be really complicated to keep up with and can often fall into burnout. Despite this, we all still need to find the balance with everything going on in our lives while maintaining stable mental health! This can be something that can be applied after quarantine is over as well.
Finding Balance in a busy schedule:
Plan
Planning is essential. The first step to approaching a busy schedule is figuring out your personal way to plan your day or week out! You can use your calendar, a digital calendar, a diary, or any system to figure out what you have to do each day and what is coming up. The benefits of having a planning system are huge because it allows you to easily track what meetings or events are happening when and it also gives you a visual of how much time you have time to dedicate to other things as well! Planning a month or week's events are good, but it can also help to create a to do list each morning to write down what tasks need to get done and what tasks are a priority to complete first!
Use your spare time effectively
Spare time is different from breaks! Do you often catching yourself scrolling mindlessly through social media or binge watching TV shows while feeling guilty about unfinished tasks? Spare time that isn't being used for actual breaks and self-care can be dedicated towards getting ahead with low-priority tasks before they become high priority. For example, if I have around 1 hour between two meetings that I have to attend and I'm feeling energized, I can use that time to get ahead with studying for next week's test instead of waiting for the last few days to study. The time that one spends using spare time effectively eventually can add up to more free time in the future for fun things as well!
Take breaks and practice self-care
It's important to recognize when you need a break! If you're feeling overwhelmed or tired with everything going on, that's often a sign that it's time to step back and take it easy for a few minutes before getting back to it. Taking breaks is incredibly important in maintaining a busy schedule because it helps us recharge before we have to start using our emotional batteries again. Self-care is just as important as taking breaks! Self-care and taking breaks can get confused often. When you're taking a break, you can practice self-care activities or you can do other activities! Self-care activities such as meditation, journaling, or yoga can give us a sense of relaxation that we often need in our busy lives.
Have a support system
Having a busy schedule can lead us to be incredibly focused on our tasks and due dates! We often are extremely focused on what we're doing to the point where we forget about our friends and having a "social life" as well. Although it's important to maintain the balance between both, it's incredibly important to have a group of people you can talk to our ask for help from when it becomes too much. Support systems or groups of friends are important because they are the people that we can turn to and form meaningful connections with. In case of an emergency where you might need someone to vent out to or just someone to affirm you, support systems are there!
What happens when you burnout?
Lastly, it's important to anticipate the worst: burnout. I've written a forum post about burnout going into detail here, but I also think it's incredibly important to validate burnout as a normal thing to happen. Although normal though, it's good to see if we can prepare for it and what we can do to avoid it from happening. Taking breaks and practicing self-care are all good prevention tips for burnout, but when we should also think about how we take care of ourselves when we are actually burnt out. This can mean having a coping box or having some easy tasks to do when we're burnt out or simply knowing who our support systems are and knowing our own needs.

1) Do you have a busy schedule? If you do, how do you usually manage it? If you don't, how do you manage your daily tasks and events?
I do have a busy schedule, mostly because there are so many things I want to do and learn. I usually manage it by sectioning off time in my day to focus on the things I want to do, and also sectioning time off for meals and breaks. I mostly enjoy the work I do, because I love to learn, so it doesn't take too much of a toll on me 😊.
2) What's your favorite clothing item you own and why?
My favourite clothing item is probably a dress that fits me well 🌺~
@TheGoodFairy
Those are really nice suggestions on what to do to break up the schedule of studying and also cool comments about the dress.
@TheGoodFairy
Hey Good! Omg! I relate very much to what you said about managing a busy schedule but still coping well with it because you're doing things that you enjoy doing! I also enjoy the stuff I do like 7 Cups, debate, volunteering, managing teams, writing, and all that good stuff :D You're an awesome person for knowing how to manage your breaks and section off time! I struggle with that myself and often end up burning out because I don't give myself enough of a breaks Dx Aw! I love that you have a cute dress that you love.. I have one too that's back at home and I can't wait to wear it again one day :) Take care!

1) Do you have a busy schedule? If you do, how do you usually manage it? If you don't, how do you manage your daily tasks and events?
No I don't. I manage daily tasks and events by pre-planing them in 1-3 days or more in advance. the schedule is very flexible in terms of being able to adjust if something impromptu pops up.
2) What's your favorite clothing item you own and why?
I would say my hoodies or sweaters because I stole them from my siblings thouh they are all aware because I wear them. on a light note
@theheartproject
Awh! I'm so glad you've learned how to manage a busy schedule well and that you've learned how to pre-plan your events so that you're on a flexible schedule! That's something I look up to very much and I hope you can keep up with it. :) Hoodies and sweatshirts are bomb! I love them and now that summer is here, I miss hoodie weather very much :( and I don't have any siblings but I definitely would steal some hoodies from them if I could hehe. Thanks for responding!
@theheartproject
Pre-planning stuff can be really helpful. It reminds me to use the planner I have for college that helps me goals that I need to get done for the week. It sounds you got great time management.
1) Do you have a busy schedule? If you do, how do you usually manage it? If you don't, how do you manage your daily tasks and events?
I do have a busy schedule but I can take 5 mins break between 30 mins of studying blocks so I don't burn out. It's helped a lot when am doing anatomy work.
2) What's your favorite clothing item you own and why?
A blue button-down shirt that I got that matches my birthstone.
@Asherwolfice
Hey Asher! Thanks for responding today :) I love that you're able to manage your time so well! I often go over the 30 minutes and forget to take the breaks so I definitely respect that very much + that is so cool that you work with anatomy! That blue button shirt must look awesome on you and it's cool that it matches your birthstone :) Take care!
@TheAtticusFinch
When I was younger in college, I would just do 3 hours straight and wouldn't take breaks. But taking breaks can be really helpful and loving the stuff your learning about as well can be helpful.
Hello everyone~
Thank you for the post, its very helpful!! ^^
1) Do you have a busy schedule? If you do, how do you usually manage it? If you don't, how do you manage your daily tasks and events?
Ah, yes, very busy~ I dont really manage a strict and concrete schedule, I just kind of do my work one at a time, starting from the most important one to the least, from start to finish without any time boundaries (unless theres a deadline), then proceed with another task! Sometimes there are breaks in between of course.
2) What's your favorite clothing item you own and why?
I have this long, flowy skirt, its very comfortable and nice!!
@Hydrangea03
Hey Hydrangea! I'm glad it was helpful for you :) Hope you're having a great day. Your free-flowing work ethic is something I aspire to have and I'm so proud of you! That definitely sounds like something I really should look into and I love that idea of having very few (if any) boundaries with time.. so cool! Skirts are and the "flowiness" seems to follow your schedule well ;) take care!
@TheAtticusFinch
Thanks for your kind words and for the check-in, as always!! >w< Take care too!!
@Hydrangea03
That sounds like a really cool idea to do. I might have to try that with my college work, as they're so much of it. It sounds that you got a really good handle on it all.
@Asherwolfice Haha, yes, I'm quite used to, if not comfortable with that 'technique' at this point xD I'm glad it could inspire you~
