Finding your passions!

Hey everyone!! It's Atticus and happy Tuesday! I'm currently enrolled in a week-long social justice course that has eaten up quite a bit of my time so I apologize for not responding to some forum replies lately. I will definitely try to get them responded to soon and will do my absolute best to stay afloat in all this craziness that has been going on in my life lately!

Finding what you're passionate about doesn't have to be a school-only thing, but school is a great way and place to figure out what you enjoy doing and the period of time you're in school is also a great time to figure out your passions as well! Passions are also great because they can help us stay motivated in what we're doing on a day to day basis.

So what is a passion and how does it develop? I might have talked about it in my first post (awh! It's already been so long) about the Flow effect, but passions are a bit more of a deeper topic but the two are still related! Passions are simply things that we truly enjoy doing and receive joy or satisfaction from doing. Things that we're passionate about tend to be things that we can do for a long time and things that we love doing as well. Passions don't necessarily have to be things that we are "good" at doing! For example, I can confidently say that I'm passionate about writing, although I still wouldn't consider myself a "good writer".

Often, we might feel rushed to find our passions for schools or for our resumes, and it feels like this never ending search for the "perfect" thing! It's good to remember that it's completely okay to "settle" for certain passions that you might not feel fully comfortable with! For example, although I love art (although I'm objectively terrible at it) and I want to learn it really quickly to learn graphic designing, it's important to remind myself to take time with my passions and not force myself too much into them!

In figuring out what our passions are, there are many different ways to do so but the main thing often is just experimentation of what is feels right for you and what clicks or not! That's why school is sometimes a great way to experiment with different subjects, sports, instruments, and extracurriculars! Figuring out what our passions are, whether it be in maths, sciences, soccer, viola, or robotics, is a great way to keep our mental health stable by always looking forward to new things!

Hi! I just started my way into this community in general. :)

What are you passionate about? If you're not passionate about something, what are some things that you'd like to be more interested in in the future?

At this moment, I'm starting to feel highly interested in research, and statistics. I'm working my way through it to see if I actually develop a passion towards this. On the other hand, medicine is something very interesting to me.

What causes someone to be passionate about something?

I believe that is this enjoyment, and desire to learn more about it. One involves themselves in this thing wishing to learn as much as they can about it, and grow within this area.

What's your favorite school outfit?

Leggins, hoodie, and sneakers. :)

1) What are some of your study barriers and how do you think you can better tackle them?

A barrier I need to tackle is to stop leaving things for last minute, and do all my studying needed during the day. I need to work on discipline, and stablish a structure when it comes to college.

2) What's your favorite stationery item/school supply?

I like this very fine writing, black ink pens. I like it even more if they're pink since it's my favorite color.

3) Have you ever traveled to any place in particular? If so, where and how was your experience? If not, where would you like to travel and why?

I have never traveled, but I would like to go to Italy. I think I first started to feel attracted towards because of history, but now I don't seem to identify specifically why I want to do. It's just a feeling.

4) Do you have any suggestions for future posts in this section of the subcom? Feel free to leave them in this question!

If I gather any, I'll make sure to comment! :)

@relaxSea

Ahh hihi!! :D I'm so happy to hear that you're here in this student support section. I'm Atticus and I post in this section every week on Tuesdays and Fridays. I hope you get to stick around!! I just realized that I completely copied and pasted my questions wrong and made you answer so many questions!! :( I'm sorry about that and sorry about this very late reply, so I'm going to respond to all of these now. Research and stats are so coolll!! I'm so glad you're getting into that as well as medicine. I'm reading into sociology research myself and it's very interesting! :D Ah I totally forgot about the line that we are passionate about things we truly want to learn more about, which is something I can super relate to. Leggings hoodies and sneakers were my go to outfit this year, which is awesome and it's such a comfy outfit. Leaving things last minute is sorta a thing that I've slowly started to do, but I'm sorry to hear that it's one of your barriers. I think choosing to work on things that you've stated is a great idea and I wish you the best of luck with that!! :D Black ink pens are also one of my favorite things ever to exist! Awh I have a bunch of friends that live in Italy and are from Italy and I've heard that it's an awesome question, I hope you get to visit there one day and thank you for responding today! :D

Hi again Atticus!! Thank you for another wonderful post!

What are you passionate about? If you're not passionate about something, what are some things that you'd like to be more interested in in the future?

Im passionate about quite a lot of things, but Ive been really into biology and its branches, especially genetic science, evolutionary science, biotechnology, and Im also currently getting myself excited with herpetology and ecology!

On the other hand, while Im not looking to pursue the subjects in question, I love history, literature, and writing so much ^^

What causes someone to be passionate about something?

I guess someone is passionate about something when they find solace in it!

What's your favorite school outfit?

In my country, we all should wear uniform so... xD

@Hydrangea03

Hello hello!! :D sorry for the late reply and wow- you actually answered the correct questions despite me making a copy and paste error when I copied my post from my planned Notion page. Thank you! :) the things that you're into are so cool, I definitely respect everything that is biology related. I have huge respect for you in that since I really sucked at studying biology last year! :) Ah imagine liking both sides of the spectrum like you and being able to appreciate history, literature, and humanities-based things. I love that so much and I'm humanities-based as well. Thank you for introducing to me the word solace, I'm writing that down since I didn't know what that word meant and had to look it up. It's so beautiful, thank you truly. Awh, uniforms are interesting. I have some friends who are opposed to them and some who are for them, what do you think? :o Thanks for responding!

Dont worry about the late reply and the wrong copy-paste hehe! Its all totally alright :p

Ah yes Ive been sort of in love with biology ever since I had it in seventh grade :) I, too, admire you so much for your prowess in humanities! Ive never had any humanities subject in school so everything I learned was self-study, so clearly Im an amateur, even if I enjoy them a lot! >< Even sometimes science burn me out a little, so I had to find something non-science-y that equally interests me, hehe :P

Solace is one of my favorite words, Im happy to have introduced it to you ^^

Ha, as for uniforms, I dont mind them at all since Im not a fashionable person anyway xD

Thank you again!! Take good care, I hope youre well ~ @TheAtticusFinch
