USMLE Step 1 Dragon
Currently feeling like the Step 1 prep dragon is triggering my PTSD and pushing all my anxiety buttons. Reminding me how I failed twice before and how I might not have it in me to continue forth. It’s bringing to light my un-dealt with ADHD and how that is the bigger dragon I’m meant to slay.
Hello,
How have you been feeling the past couple of days? This sounds like a very rough situation for you. Struggling to find solid ground when this Step 1 is triggering PTSD, anxiety, and your ADHD. It becomes more discouraging that you've failed twice before. What were the reasons for you to choose studying the USMLE in the first place, despite knowing that it may trigger all the above? What was it that kept you continuing even after failing?
Failure is another word for mistakes. Rather than thinking that you have failed the past two times, try thinking that it was only making mistakes. As we should learn from our mistakes, and everyone is allowed to make mistakes (even perfectionists). Making mistakes is not a negative thing, as long as we learn from it and not give up trying. To give up and stop putting in effort, that in itself is failing oneself in the progression of achieving our goals.
Take a step back, review what has already happened and reflect on what you can do to keep moving forward (especially if this is part of your dream). Allow yourself to make mistakes multiple of times, evaluate each mistake, take out all the points that needs improvement, then work on correcting them.
For lesser anxiety and triggers, do everything little by little. Take a break when either factor begin to affect you. You can do this! I believe in you!~ ❤️
