study motivation

one thing i learned over the years (but that sometimes i tend to forget) is that there are days where i feel completely motivated and i might study for 3h straight without getting super exhausted, while other days even just reading my notes feels draining. it's okay. some days i'll be more productive, some i'll do absolutely nothing, but that's fine. i shouldn't blame myself for that. i shouldn't think that i'm a failure just 'cause today i didn't manage to study as much as i did yesterday. i know this is such a basic thing, but sometimes i just need to remind myself of that.

yesterday i followed a german course, two classes of 2h each and the rest of the time i spent it studying and doing exercises. it's been such a productive day. today i just spent one hour studying and i only managed to read 2 pages of my notes and this afternoon i couldn't even get myself to do anything at all. and i started to tell myself that i was lazy, that i would never pass my exams if i go on like this and many other negative things. but then i realised that all of what i was telling myself wasn't the truth. today was not the day. i did what i could. i learned from experience that i should never push myself too much. so yeah, thought i'd write this lil thing as a reminder for future me and for other people who feel the same as i do :)

(btw i'm new here and tbh i don't even know what i'm doing lol)

It is so hard some days thoughhh ): And making posts, if that's what you're reffering to, is kinda confusing but I think you'll get the hang of it. Welcome to cups! I think this is a good reminder, I certainly needed it today. Thank you!

Yeah, it is nice! One thing I do to be nicer to myself is I named this guy in my head harold and any bad thoughts are from him. If I'm being mean to myself then I just say, "shut up harold" but only in my head in case someone nearby is actually named harold lol

ahahah that's so smart actually ! like in the film "Luca", where he says "Silenzio (shut up) Bruno!"

Motivation does come and go. Especially when we aren't able to stay focused. It's even more difficult when you have no interest in your subjects. If possible, try and set little goals. Work it out slowly and definitely don't push yourself too hard. It may end up with reverse results. Stay positive, you can do this!~

There's a guy on youtube called Jason Lewis who puts together music with underlying frequencies that are supposed to help people focus and study.
I wonder if it works for anyone else, or if I am just benefiting from a placebo effect type of thing?

i never heard of this guy but sometimes i do study with some low music as background and it helps. unfortunately, i noticed (for me at least) that not every method always works. sometimes i use the pomodoro technique and find it very efficient, while other times it just feels useless. sometimes i do focus better with music as a background, sometimes that actually distracts me more. it really depends on the day and how i feel tbh. but thank u for recommending this yt channel ! i might give it a try :)

having a nice goal is great and it can make us really motivated ! try not to push urself too hard tho, it's good to keep a balance between motivation, productivity and stress ! also, when u feel like focusing is getting to hard, don't be afraid of asking for help or using tools that actually help u (telling this cos a lot of times i tend to work with my struggles alone, without never asking for help cos i'm afraid of doing so even if i know i might actually need it)
