Academic stress
Hey guys,
Over the past year of my life, I've dealt with so much stress about my academics. I have friends and family tell me that I'm smart and will do fine in college, but every time I have an assignment or feel like I'm not doing perfect, I get anxiety that regularly interferes with my ability to function well. I did very well on my ACT, have had a 4.0 all through high school, and got accepted into the college I want to go to, but I still feel like I'm going to fail and it terrifies me. Every time I do an assignment I feel like I did it horribly and feel sick to my stomach because I expect to fail, and it affects my ability to eat or sleep. I sometimes wonder if I'm making a mistake in deciding to go to college, even though there have been many other times where I am excited for and sure about it. I just don't feel smart or capable and, even if I do end up doing well, I don't know how I will continue to manage the constant stress. Is there anyone who has any strategies or advice on how to handle these feelings?

Hey there! Thank you for sharing ❤️ It sounds like you’ve been working incredibly hard and I can imagine how exhausting it must be to feel as though your work isn’t good enough, despite all your achievements. I know it can be difficult when self doubt lingers and I want you to know it’s okay to feel this way.
While I can’t give advice since I haven’t walked a day in your shoes, I can share some things that may be worth exploring. I know that some people find it helpful to remind themself of past successes when self doubt kicks in, while others try shift their focus from perfection to progression. To do this they may use a journal to write down their successes and look back at them, or they may create a habit where they celebrate a small win or step. I know that grounding techniques can also help when stress feels really overwhelming.
Remember, everyone’s experience is different, and what works for one person may not work for others. I hope you find something that helps you ❤️
In the past, what’s something that has made you feel more at ease or confident, even if it was only for a moment?
