Calling All Homeschoolers And Homeschool Parents

Hello fellow homeschoolers and homeschool parents!

I hope everyone is doing well. I wanted to open a safe space for homeschoolers and their parents to connect and discuss. For many years, I was homeschooled, and have many friends that are too. Homeschooling can lead to enriching experiences and offer many benefits. While it was not perfect at all moments, it was exactly what I needed during that time in my life. I think there is room here for support and some healthy discussion. Please feel free to share your own experiences with homeschooling.

Some Questions to get us started (:

Students:

How do you feel about being homeschooled? Do you enjoy it?

What aspects of homeschooling do you find most challenging?

What does a daily routine and learning environment look like for you?

Parents:

What made you decide to homeschool your kids?

What struggles are you currently facing?

What makes it all worth it for you?

@FaithfulZareia

How do you feel about being homeschooled? Do you enjoy it?

While it has its struggles, I quite like it. Being a "gifted" student, I find I'm able to challenge myself more since I am in charge of my own education (I'm 100 independent)

What aspects of homeschooling do you find most challenging?

Definitely the social aspect, while I grew up in public school (I started in 6th grade, right before covid) I developed on my own, isolated. I am a member of a homeschool band but its hard to be social/ with typical teenagers, and not just because I have social anxiety.

What does a daily routine and learning environment look like for you?

I get up, at 8:30 i do my physical therapy and take care of my bunny and get ready and grab breakfast before starting school at 9:30. Some days i sleep in. Im done with school by noon. I sit at my desk and do my classes on my laptop. Im currently taking Spanish and chemistry and geometry and world history, i read a lot so I'm not worried about english, and I'm taking a lot of funky music classes. Although music classes are in person for two hours on Friday. My learning environment is me and my laptop and sometimes i cuddle my bunny while doing class. My sister does homeschool gym but I'm excused because of physical injuries.

Hey bunny! thanks so much for joining in on the discussion. I did not know you were homeschooled. I can definitly relate to alot of what you are saying.

It is definitly nice to be uncharge of your own education. You get to take the classes you want and challenge yourself in ways that traditional public schools cant.

It can definitly feel isolating at times. While there are some great homeschooling communities out there, you have to make that effort. and it can be really hard at times. the social aspects dont come naturally.

oh my gosh I cant believe you have a bunny. What is your bunnies name? They must be an awesome study partner.

@FaithfulZareia

my bunnys name is jeffery! Hes very old hehe. Here is a picture of my furball https://ibb.co/9nyhKks

I love my class work, and since I am in charge I get to supplement my education with more challenging material!

It is isolating but because of my location, there are a lot a lot of resources here, my local Library and park have weekly homeschool things (I live in a city in southern us)

@Bunnylovesyou

oh my gosh I am in absolute love with jeffery🥰🥰🥰

I completely relate with that. It is so nice to study things that are actually interesting to you as well as have actual challenge. Its so nice to be able to adapt the curriculum to your needs and accommodations. Its cool to hear that your location allows good access to resources. I felt really isolated while homeschooling too. Here for you always <3
