Discriminations During Education | share your stories and get support here
Hi lovelies! How are you doing? Hope everything has been great and lifeis treating you gentle. 😊
This thread is about the discriminations during education and steps to stops them.
What is discriminations;
Discrimination is the injustice and unfair treatment based on characteristics of sex, culture, age or race. It has a major impact on the victims' lives — leading to a cascade of stress-related emotional, physical, and behavioral changes. Stress evokes negative emotional responses, such as distress, sadness, and anger, and can often lead to an increase in behaviors that harm health, such as alcohol, tobacco, and other substance use, and a decrease in healthy activities, such as sleep and physical activity.
Steps to stop discriminations;
◎ Speak to a senior person. (Your parents, teacher or headteacher, manager at work, supervisor at the restaurant, or any person in authority at the place of the incident). Politely make your case and trust that they will take it up. Follow it up and ensure that the issue is resolved and that the culprit is aware of the consequences if it happens again.
◎ Speak to a law enforcement officer if you feel the case is a serious one that needs serious attention. Do not be quiet about it. Let your parents help you make the right choices about what to do.
◎ Build your boundaries.Use assertiveness and follow these steps;
1, Speak seldomly but peacefully, use I- message.
2, Keep in mind that all of you deserves being treated with respect and understanding as a human being. Speaking out and request a better treatment is not over - reacting.
3, Accept how you feel (shame, remorse or embarrassment...etc) for standing up. You are doing the right thing, but it's okay to feel unassertive and negative.
All people have the right to non-discrimination and equality in education. Standing up and speaking out against discrimination is only the first step. If you don't succeeds at first, keeps trying. And always remember, that help is always available on Cups and we are behind you. You are amazing, beautiful and outstanding, nothing, absolutely nothing can change that (even if you fail at classes or gets bad grades).
