i'm so scared for my next year of high school :(
i've always struggled a lot with motivation for schoolwork. i always procrastinate -- even on big projects -- i wait for the last possible moment to do my work. sometimes i don't even complete my homework at all. :(
i used to get good grades but last year i got a lot of Cs and Bs. i'm really worried for next year since i want to do well in school... but i just can't get myself to start locking in and studying. 💔🥀🥀🥀
i'm usually a pretty quiet person, unless i'm with my friends, so i'm also kind of scared that i won't make any new friends. i have social anxiety and i'm really bad at keeping conversations going.......
i'm worried that people will dislike me, or think i'm cringey, or think i'm stuck-up and annoying. i feel like such a dry texter cos i never know what to say. i feel so boring 😭
thank you for reading my extremely long rant 🥹💗
@starryliqhts
Trust me, you are human, and we all feel like that.
I'm sure you are not cringey or boring.
You are going through alot of change and it takes time.
What worked for me with studying was breaking into daily, small, manageable chunks, to get it done, feel confident and not feeling overwhelmed by leaving it all to the last minute.
Your friends will have similar feelings.
Don't be too hard on yourself.
I wish you genuinely all the best going back 💜💕
@Amanda84 this message is so sweet thank you so much! made me feel a lot better 🥹💗💗💗
@starryliqhts
I'm so glad , and you are most welcome 🥰
@starryliqhts You are not alone! Everyone feels a little out of place or weird in highschool or at some point. Everyone feels a little afraid when comes to new beginnings. And i can tell you that almost everyone in my class left things for last minute too.
You could try to make a to do list before each morning of the things you need to do that day, and cross them when you have done them. Or what @Amanda84 said, is also really good advice when it comes to schoolwork.
Soon you will notice this year has passed, and that the things that used to worry you are not longer there. Or so do i wish that for you 💗

Hi!
In addition to all the other good suggestions, can you find out if any of your friends will be taking the same courses as you (they don’t have to be in the exact same class).
If you can get together with at least one friend, you can support each other and keep each other motivated. You can do this in person at each other's homes or even on the phone.
Let us know how it goes!
@FaithfulScout yesyes a few of my friends share classes with me! dont know if i'll be able to make new friends tho..
thank you for this comment, i really appreciate it 🥹💗💗💗
@starryliqhts
Hi!
Has school started yet? How are you feeling?
@starryliqhts OMG I think I'm exactly like you...
I'm about to start my second year of junior high school... This is my third transfer, and constantly making new friends is exhausting.
I also often procrastinate, often putting off studying when I should be, opting instead to play games or scroll through the internet.
My grades are usually average, even though many of my family's children are excellent. I'm nervous and hopeful I can get into a good school, but I just like to procrastinate and slack off.
I think I'm just a lazy person. I want to change, but I don't know how...
We are all the same, I can understand you.🫶
Hey @starryliqhts ❤️
Firstly, thank you for being so open and sharing all this; it takes courage to write out what you're going through. You're definitely not alone in this, so many people struggle with procrastination, motivation and anxiety even if they don't talk about it. It doesn't mean that you're lazy or boring, it just means you're human and figuring things out.
It sounds to me that despite having a rough year with your grades last year, you care about them and that really does show you want to grow. In my experience, a lot of times, motivation has come after starting, not before. Perhaps it can be helpful to start thinking of ways to just start -- whether thats taking regular breaks, or setting a small goal to complete. Tiny wins and celebrations can be really helpful and build momentum.
As for the social side, it's completely understandable and normal to feel worried about making friends. People usually appreciate kindness over perfect conversation skills. You don't need to be 'on' all the time, just listening and asking simple questions like 'how was your day' can be enough to start up conversations and build rapport with others. The right people will see you ❤️
I wish you all the best with your new school year, you've got this! Please remember, if you ever need to talk, the 7 Cups community is here for you!
