DUI

I have gotten my wakeup call. I blacked out and do not remember something terrible. I left a bar and drove home without even knowing it, or that I was kicked out of that bar due to over drinking. I woke up in jail having hit a police car parked in a construction zone. I do not even remember anything past my second shot in the booth. Everyone's ok but hashing through the insurance and legal stuff. I stopped drinking on that same day. Just glad to be alive and free...

@Jcatlett46

It must be scary to not remember and many things you have to deal with sadly the effects linger like insurance costs . In time when the scared/ embarrassed feeling   is over...

Please Remember the feeling you have Now because .....

as I can tell you I watched someone say "this is it never again "

it was on the third DUI that almost ruined our daughters wedding ........mandatory AA and thousands of dollars.... a tube to blow in before car would start ....... before it was never again.

Hi @jcatlett46 -

We have very similar stories. On Friday after an intense breakup, I left a social drinking lounge but I don't remember driving away. The last thing I remember is sitting at the table in the lounge him leaving then coming back down, yelled at me then left again. After that I left, driving home....I made it to about 2 miles from my destination and turned into 2 vehicles that were stopped at a light. No one was injured and the airbags didn't even pop, I was going about 10 mph... But it doesn't help that I was clearly under the influence.

This was my first incident with the law, let alone a DUI. But I was an emotional wreck due to the breakup, I was heartbroken and I can drink like a fish, not a great mixture. And the fact that I drove away without knowledge is scary.

After hitting the car immediately sobered up, so the sobriety test, the initial arrest, going to the police station then being forced to go to the hospital, getting dumped into a drunk tank and sitting there for over 5 hours....cold and only able to reflect on my breakup, my finances and having to admit to my family what has happened was horrible. From 10pm until 5:30am I felt like I aged 4yrs in 7hrs.

Now the legal process and how much money it is taken to get the car back, paying for an attorney and fees is astronomical.

I'm thankful too, things could have been worse.... although I wish it never happened.

Something that's helped reframe my mind is "It's not rock bottom, it's the beginning of a new chapter."

I believe in you, very brave and I share this experience with you 🙏

The beginning of a newer, better chapter is such a nice thought and it’s how I like to think about things as well. Hope everything turns out well in the end ❤️
