New here
I decided to come back to 2nd cup. I am an alcoholic. I can stay clean during the week and then I binge a case of beer Friday. I've always struggled with addiction since my teens. First it was booze, then I got into club drugs, which I was able to quit and haven't touched for years now. I quit smoking but am addicted to nicotine replacement products. It sucks being addicted to things. I am sick of it.
My last drink was yesterday an I am committed to staying sober today. I want to be a better partner to my girlfriend. I want to be more engaged in our relationship. She knows I have problems with alcohol and has set limits. For example, no weekday drinking, which I agreed to and have been doing ok with. But I dont want to just do ok. I want my life back.
I was sober for 3 years in a relationship with my ex wife. She started using meth and was extremely abusive. Anyway, she ended up in jail. But the lingering trauma still gets to me. I have flashbacks and nightmares from it. I get anxiety attacks. I am on meds for it.
I was doing therapy but it's expensive. I avoid 12 step meetings because I dont want to run into my ex. So i decided to check out this space. Thanks for listening.

@lovelyWhisper66 thanks for the reply. I talked to my partner yesterday about how I struggle with alcohol and I want to quit drinking altogether. She isn't pushing me to stop drinking but is supportive. She is not much of a drinker so that helps. I just dont want to be controlled by my trauma anymore.

Welcome back to 7Cups!
Commiting to stay sober for TODAY, that's a great start. I am so glad you have a partner who motivates you to improve quality of life and your health. It's not often when someone has that. When we become the one to be aware of our problems, we starts to see the collateral damages that we have done. Rather than feeling horrible about what you've done, go back and do something about it, right? I am sure your partner wants to see you reach your highest potential. Making someone happy makes me happy, sounds like you feel as that imporving your life style is a way to show her how much she means to you. Your story is uplifting and made my day. I am glad you're here! see you around.
