Alcoholism
I am into occasional drinking after I take one shot I loose control and drink till I blackout it's risky now need help to stop
@greenSouth8287
So what kind of actual help are you looking for?
I can send so much information and yet, if you yourself are not ready to make the change, it’s useless.
It has to come from you.
Help like just to chat to someone when I feel urge yes I am ready to make this change completely
This is great! There are many Listeners here with better availability who will chat with you anytime you feel the “urge,” to remind you, perhaps, on what you have to live for and, perhaps what you’re throwing away every time you put yourself in stupor.
There are also many excellent organizations. Internationally, you can find by your country on findahelpline.com. If you’re in the USA, there are specific localized resources by zip code at findhelp.org. Just enter alcoholism as a criteria and many resources will pop up.
Finally, on 7 cups, Sharing Circles are open 24/7 and you can vent and receive support anytime. Likewise, Listeners can help you “ride the urge” and get through some of your worst impulses, and hopefully find the power to carry forward as your better version of yourself.
I’m so happy that you realize that you can’t stop once you’ve started. It sounds like complete absence is the way to go. You can try your local aa groups and/or a private therapist.
I struggled for years and I watched most of my life fall apart. I stopped so many times;sometimes for months. I can’t say how many times I relapsed but I never stopped trying. I’ve been sober a long time now and my life is better than ever. You can do it if you just decide you won’t ever stop trying!
Living a very active lifestyle really helped me. Do you have a sport you participate in? Or one you’d like to try? Or perhaps learn a musical instrument . Keeping yourself focused on something else is key.
@greenSouth8287 that "just one shot" thing is actually really common with alcoholism, the off switch just doesn't work the same way it does for other people have you tried talking to a doctor about it? there are meds that make quitting a lot easier, you don't have to just white knuckle through it
Your seeking help is a good start to overcoming this. Just know that what is happening to you is not uncommon and you will certainly overcome it. Trust me, you will. In the meantime, can you try seeing a therapist? Engage with things you love to do? Keep more company with friends who aren't into drinking? In the end, you will be fine 💪🤗❤️
You caught the signs early. That's great. Binge drinking is still drinking to excess.
@greenSouth8287 one shot to blackout with no off switch is a real thing and it's not just "low tolerance" some people's brains literally don't have a stop signal with alcohol. the occasional part doesn't matter when the pattern is always the same. try not buying it at all, having none at home is the easiest barrier. also talk to a doctor, there's actually medication (naltrexone) that kills the urge before it spirals most people don't know that's even an option
OP has not responded to this post, but maybe it can help someone else coming along and reading.
