Why are you still addicted?
What are some reasons/factors why you are unable to leave your substabce dependency?
Do you have mental health diagnosis? Homeless? family stressor? Truama?
I think it's important to have insight to others as well as our own, incase we were never aware of the other relations with our addiction.
Thank you and have a good day!
@Jackie Thanks for the lovely thread! Insight into addiction can truly reveal so much about ourselves and help in planning recovery, coping methods, etc.
Stress has actually been a huge factor for me especially with 7Cups/internet addiction. I find my addictions as coping methods sadly. They also help me with dealing with anxiety and depression.
I think because I am not yet willing to see my addiction as "bad". I'm definitely addicted to pot, I smoke all day and the thought of a day without it terrifies me. I know you can't be chemically defendant but mentally I feel I am. But because I use it to treat my PTSD symptoms- and because my doctors know I'm doing it, and to some extent support it, I tell myself that there's nothing I can do about it... but I'm on this community so obviously I don't think that 100%. So I keep doing what I'm doing but theres a voice in the back of my head saying I wish it didn't have so much control over my functioning.
@megamacaw
Hi mega, it's interesting you mentioned the phrase " not bad enough" to be called an addiction. I felt the same initially but later learned that it's not just physical and emotional depency that makes anything "addiction". It's also behaviors that's repetative that we aknowledge but have little to no understanding of being in control. Weed is beyond controversial and I rather not talk about that, but I do believe that their is medicinal benefit to using marijuana. But like anything else, nothing is good in excess amount. I am glad you're here to receive support! I hope you're involved in trauma sub community! See you around.
@Jackie im still addicted because I have been week whe i should have been strong. I have alot of regrets from when I have been taking stuff
Because i have actual chronic pain and horrible depression problems that are both unbearable without it.
@kitten100
Hi Kitten, that's another way of perspective. Alot of times chronic pain can bring in substance dependency, either it's from your doctor or illegal substance bought off the streets. I don't know your story but if you have not already, reach out to a doctor and talk to them about your feeling regards to being dependent to whatever substance you are using. First step is indeed aknowleging your addiction and the second step is your motivation to break the cycle. Good luck and update us when/if you can.
@kitten100
100% yes
Im trying to heal myself now and remove myself from all the pain medication because of the judgment of family and go all natural after battling leukemia and now MS with cronic pain and other health issues caused by the Flint water Crisis

Is it just me because I know Im addicted and can go with out if I really wanted to but considering I always got the money on me and I enjoy it I dont wanna quit.
I feel when Im not using I have no energy to do anything .... or if Im having bad days I feel that is also my go to
@Chelspartida21 I feel the EXACT same way with my substance
@Chelspartida21 no one understands how hard it is to try stop that addiction unless theve been there .the weekness in mornings to get out bed .the anger .the anxiety .the fear .its horrible x
I feel you on this, i turn to my go-to. my triggers lead me to depend on using. im self aware and it’s painful when i allow myself to give in. each time i use, i tell myself “it’s not that bad”, or “its not as much”, “others do more than this”; any phrase that downplays or minimizes my thoughts. it’s a bad day, so i think it’s a good time to use. no motivation?; good time to use. flashback from the past, no i don’t want to go back; i’m going to use. the cycle repeats. i want to quit, but my brain also doesn’t. i know there’s negative consequences, but my brain doesn’t want to see it
@Jackie i know this is late but i wanted to reply anyway. i had a hard childhood and started drugs when i was 18. when i was 20 i hadn
@tony5795
Hey Tony. Thank you for sharing that and I can sense your struggles in yours words. I personally do not have bipoiar but I've known someone with bipolar type 2 whom I was close to. She also self medicates to slow things down when she is manic. She explained being in being a manic cycle feel incredible and wanted to utilize it in the best way as possible. I guess for her being manic helped her through her lowest part of bipolar. She has drugs often made manic episodes go by slower without dipping really low after. It sounds unreal and I am sure it's not a easy life to live out.
I use to work longer, to earn more, to do more…
No but seriously I have many different reasons to use but mostly because I’m bored.
@Jackie I'm years clean and still consider myself addicted because I'm only ever one bad day away from relapsing.
