@Robbie1968 Such a good book! I have read the Shepard's Notes (like Cliff Notes), I want to read the full version next. I've heard that Life Together is also Very Good!

@Robbie1968 Thank you for the book recommendation! What were your biggest takeaways from The Cost of Discipleship? Any favorite quotes?

I have read Life Together by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and that is another great book by him. I especially appreciated the points it made about Christian community and true spiritual fellowship. It emphasized that we have a beautiful and weighty responsibility to love and serve fellow Christians through Christ's power and example. 

A few of my favorite quotes:

"Human love constructs its own image of the other person, of what he is and what he should become. It takes the life of the other person into its own hands. Spiritual love recognizes the true image of the other person, which he has received from Jesus Christ; the image that Jesus Christ himself embodied and would stamp upon all men."

“Spiritual love ... knows that the most direct way to others is always through prayer to Christ and that love of others is wholly dependent upon the truth in Christ...Human love lives by uncontrolled and uncontrollable dark desires; spiritual love lives in the clear light of service ordered by the truth."

"Christianity means community through Jesus Christ and in Jesus Christ. No Christian community is more or less than this. Whether it be a brief, single encounter or the daily fellowship of years, Christian community is only this. We belong to one another only through and in Jesus Christ. What does this mean? It means, first, that a Christian needs others because of Jesus Christ. It means, second, that a Christian comes to others only through Jesus Christ. It means, third, that in Jesus Christ we have been chosen from eternity, accepted in time, and united for eternity."
