Idk what to do anymore
Does anyone know what maladaptive daydreaming is? Because I’ve been doing that for years and I just found out that there’s an actual name for it a couple months ago. Anyways, I’ve been really struggling with my relationship with the Lord for the past few years and I don’t know how to get back. Like yeah I know I need to pray and read my Bible, but it doesn’t feel genuine when I do that. So I don’t feel like I’m actually doing anything for myself spiritually when I pray or read my Bible. But I literally can’t get out of making up fake scenarios in my head. Like I do it all day. Literally. All day. And then I do the whole maladaptive daydreaming thing. It feels like real life isn’t real anymore. I feel so much better when I’m with my made up family and friends, not my real ones. I feel like I sound absolutely crazy right now lol. But idk how to stop this. And there’s more to it but I thought that I would just share this right now because I’ve never told anyone this and it feels terrifying to tell anyone because I feel like people will think I’m just super weird or something. Which I probably am but I don’t like being told that when im just trying to get help.

Thank you so much for sharing even though it’s scary. That sounds very hard. When it comes to getting closer to God, one of the things I learned in one of my classes that has been in my mind about that is, our thoughts about things follow our behavior and not generally the other way around. One of my pastors gave a message a while back about how it’s ok and even good to do the things we need to do (like pray and read our Bible and worship) in faith even if we don’t have the feelings yet. I know that doesn’t make it easier. I find it helpful to listen to worship music or hymns when I’m struggling to read my Bible or pray because it helps me to hear the truths from the Bible and makes me think about God. God loves you and he understands what’s going on.

Hey, I totally understand you. I daydream because I'm thinking about the books that I want to write and I feel happy when I think of what to write. Maybe we should both try to stay in the present moment and enjoy right now.
And I understand the routine of reading the Bible and praying. What the person said above, listen to music or just sit in the peace of God.
What really helps me is to go outside and look at the clouds and look at the beauty of it and just think, "Thank you God."
And that could be my time with God.
