Nobody likes feeling bad. When things go wrong, many of us try to distract ourselves so we don’t have to face what’s bothering us. We train ourselves to avoid discomfort, but feeling uneasy is a normal part of life. The more we learn to not let it bother us, the more we may accept, and the less it will affect us. The pain we feel is multiplied by the amount we fight it and focus on it; that equals the amount of suffering we experience.
Sitting with your discomfort means getting used to feeling uncomfortable without trying to push those feelings away. It’s about staying with tough emotions and letting them fade over time. It's focusing on the breath, not the discomfort.
Taking care of yourself means letting yourself truly feel all your emotions, even the unpleasant ones, but not getting carried away by them.

Mental stress can cause us not to be able to see the good things in life and lead to excessive rumination or worries, which can result in serious health problems. If you have serious, long-term problems with negative thinking and feeling depressed, see your doctor or talk to a therapist if they are related to any mental challenges.
