Being kind can make us feel better 🧡

Hello everyone, some of you might already know about the feel good natural hormone oxytocin. Oxytocin is a hormone and a neurotransmitter to the brain that gives the brain signals when people exercise or are close to each other, when women go through childbirth, and during lactation. In other situations, it is associated with empathy, trust, intimacy, activity, and relationship-building. It may also have benefits as a treatment for a number of conditions, including depression, anxiety, and intestinal problems.

Have you ever wondered why you feel so good after you helped someone or gave someone a gift? How about after practicing yoga or petting an animal?

Endorphins (feel good hormones) and oxytocin increase when we exercise. Giving someone a gift or doing something nice for someone will also cause oxytocin levels to rise. There are endless ways we can be kind, whether it is offering to help a neighbor, giving money to charity (if possible) or stopping for an animal who wants to cross the road.

In any act of kindness, the oxytocin produced by your interaction can help you to feel a little better. Sometimes anxiety can make it very difficult to interact with others. There are many ways you can help yourself, but if your challenges disrupt your everyday life, then professional help from a therapist may be required. Whenever any mental illness prevents you from living life in a satisfactory way, please consider reaching out for help.

Being kind does not cost us anything, but can have long lasting effects on us as we make an effort to understand another person and learn to be patient and open with others. Sometimes practicing kindness may be challenging with some people that we find difficult to deal with. Sometimes we might find it too difficult to practise kindness because of our own challenges or long standing difficulties with someone. We may not succeed every time, but if we persist over the long run, we can experience greater joy and contentment in our lives. So, whenever you can, be generous with your kindness.

@amiablePeace77 Great thread. I have always wondered about some of the factors that make us feel better when we do something helpful to others or even ourselves

How could you brighten someone’s day this week?

I will try to get my mom to go on a trip down memory lane. It is not as easy as she has memory issues.

@soulsings

Nice that you're so supportive to your mum soul. I heard sometimes it helps people to remember better when hearing their favorite songs.

Such an informative and brilliant thread! Thank you so much for sharing.

I think just feeling heard can be a true gift of kindness and one that really helps the other person move forward into a better space. So valuable truly. So that is a big one for me I feel and it sounds so simple but so powerful too.

Hi Lisa, so nice to see you 😊.

I fully agree to what you said about feeling heard, it can make people feel so comfortable, safe and validated. In this busy world many people find it hard to take the time to listen fully so making someone feel heard is a great gift to give.

It is not so easy to reach out for one's self as it is to encourage someone else. I find it helps me feel like I can encourage someone or keep them off the path that I have traveled then life has meaning and the junk you went through is not in vain. Just my personal feeling.

@scarletPear1945

I agree to what you said scarletPear. Knowing you can prevent (to what extend so ever) someone from having to go through what you had to go through is rewarding, even if it's just about being there for them.

I agree with you about just being heard. Sometimes I don't think we really realize the volume and weight being heard means to us. I am grateful to you and the teams that make this possible for people like me.❤️😍

Be kind. Those are the most important words my grandmother ever said to me. It has made the greatest difference in my life when I finally understood what she meant. Life became easier when I learned to be kind.

This week I am supporting a friend's charity endeavor. She is hosting a flea market. While I can't really afford to

Your grandma told you wise words. I find kindness always comes back to us in some way when we spread it into the world. Nice that you help out a friend!
