Sensory processing is how we react to the stimuli we receive in our environment. When processing stimuli through our senses we can have positive or negative responses. We might look at a photo of a loved one or a picture we really like and feel good. Wearing something that feels scratchy on our skin, however, can make us feel uncomfortable.

Try this breathing exercise that is part of soothing therapy

Breath in through the nose for a few seconds.

Breath out through the mouth.

Repeat 3 times or as much as comfortable.

Participation question

How do you feel after doing breathing exercise?

What activities give you positive sensory feedback?

How often are you doing these activities?

Seeking Help

Mental stress can cause us not to be able to see the good things in life and lead to excessive rumination or worries which can result in serious health problems. If you have serious, long-term problems with negative thinking and feeling depressed, see your doctor or talk to a therapist if they are related to any mental challenges.

@amiablePeace77 after doing the breathing exercise, it kind of relaxes you. But when your panicky it's really hard to do. Also after the breathing exercise I realised I really need to brush my teeth😁 sensory things have I do often are cuddling with my piggies, and watching them play. Art and craft (which I need to do more of) and just sitting outside, peacefully.😁

@Tinywhisper11

Cuddling with your piggies sounds so sweet! The "cuddle hormone" makes us feel better so keep on cuddling! 😀

@Gettingbettertoday

I could imagine it can be challenging to continue these activities when you do not get any response so 👍 for not giving up and continuing to do them daily. I hope one day you will feel a difference.

@amiablePeace77

My anhedonia is getting better. I am sometimes able to feel some positive emotions but not reliably.
