My Trigger Journal
I came across this 123 step process for when you notice you are having a big reaction to someone or something. It resonated with me and seemed like what might help me deal with bumps.
Here’s my summary:
· Notice you are triggered.
· Say where the child in you went back to in childhood.
· State how the person (or situation) who caused the trigger is different from the one in your childhood.
· Figure out what you need to get over the bump. Ask for what you need. And ask for what you can own.
· If at any time in the process you get triggered, go round again.

I like it for being short and simple. For acknowledging the
past, but encouraging moving on from the past.
My challenge with it is that it is meant to be done in partnership with someone else. I don’t feel I have a someone else to do this with right now. But I think I can still benefit from it on my own. And perhaps even more with the help of fellow 7 cuppers.
Just noticing and saying “I’ve been triggered” has already been helping, by putting the situation in context. But I want to take it further. Writing helps my thought process, so I’m starting this trigger log to write my way through the steps.
Contributions are welcome. I find other people’s thoughts on my thought processes often opens up new ways of thinking. And if anyone wants to join in and try it for themself, please do.

This morning I was triggered.
I went back to feeling unwanted and that my need for attention is an inconvenience. I went back to feeling like an inconvenience that should not impinge on other people’s time.
They chose to be with me. They say they care for me. They say they want to learn and improve.
I need my bids for attention to be met with compassion. If the timing is inconvenient, I need the need to still be recognised and so an alternative needs to be given.
