I’m gonna be leaving Highschool this year and it really is scary. It makes me pretty sad too to think about all my friends possibly splitting up and kinda leaving childhood behind. It’s really intimidating and I can’t really see myself getting older. It’s such a weird thing. I’m trying really hard to live in the now and make all these moments count but it’s hard cause I feel like it’s nagging at me. It doesn’t help that I don’t really know what I’m doing after Highschool. Overall I just don’t want to leave childhood behind just yet. It feels like I won’t ever get this experience back and it kinda tears my heart apart.

Hey @Smithly918 , I’m sorry to hear you are going through a tough time, leaving Highschool can be a daunting experience especially with the uncertainty of the future. It seems this change is something you don’t feel quite ready for, growing up is tough, but the best thing we can do is accept that change happens and welcome each new chapter with an open heart and mind. 💛

I find it especially helpful to focus on my breathing when I become overwhelmed with future changes, deep breaths can really help.

Have you got a Highschool careers advisor which could help you with these emotions and plan the next chapter of your life.

@Smithly918 I hear you. There are times that I think back on as being kind of idyllic but often I tend to exaggerate how good that was. There was pain and suffering but I tend to forget them.

Change is scary. Have you considered talking to your friends and see who is staying around and who is moving away? Maybe it is time to start spending more time with people that might like to still be friends after high school.

If you are going off to college, it can help to still stay in touch with people you are friendly with.

Journalling on what you want to do in life may also create a picture of a life after high school.

For 7cups you can get a transition mentor and that can help too. PM me if want more info on that since I am a teen transition mentor.

I'm currently going through a similar thing but nothing can make me say goodbye to childhood! I believe every person should preserve the child inside of them because it's very important. Don't let people make you feel like you shouldn't. But on the other hand, when it comes to responsibilities and you being your own boss, it gets extremely overwhelming and I can relate on a high level. It's difficult to balance things out but it's not impossible. Life can be amazing, like absolutely fascinating. There's amazing things out in the world. Opportunities and people. And you can't reach them without making a significant difference in your life. We believe in you ❤️

Hi, i relate to you, i left my home after 14 for education, now I could come back 33 , 😇, thanks to God, I agree with those written above, but I have a different comfort mechanism which helps me well, I believe that I will reunite with all my beloved ones in heaven eternally, so these temporary leavings will be recompansated at the utmost level, and I will be able to watch these days like watching a movie. Ofcourse leaving sth or someone or someplace is still painful, but knowing that these departures are just temporary, it comforts and relieves so much. (By the way, I respect you and your struggle in any way, you could be a nonbeliever or sth else, i believe in God in Islamic way, but in the end, we are all humans, our pains and desires are the same, and that is just enough to love and embrace each other)

Bestest of wishes ♥️

Hello,

I remember as a child hating the very thought of growing up. My poor mother avoid mentioning anything about me growing up so as to avoid conflict. I am now a ripe old age (okay 2-), but here is a thimble of thought gathered from my walk:

Gods got you. Even when you get lonely, lost or frustrated Him or a multitude of angels are there to talk too. They love you and are excited to see what you decide to do. Churches are a great way to meet amazing, friendly people and enjoy coffee and cookies.

Never let school get in the way of your education. After my schooling I took several years to travel the world and look for what I was interested in before committing to college, jobs or family. There is a lot out there to see and learn and even on 2000 you can go to Europe for 3 months. I made new friends couchsurfing that way too! Friends are everywhere. Don’t worry about finding them. When you are doing what you love there will be someone else just as crazy and passionate about “the smells of cheese“ as you! And when you find your dream/passion FOLLOW IT. I had an Uncle who loved music, but decided he could make a living in it so he went to school for law. Hated it. Tried to be a salesman. Hated it. And finally 20 years later went back to music. He is amazing and is doing great! Do what you love and trust that God will fill in the gaps. I took a love of sailing and left my landlocked state to try it out (lots of old squarerigged ships take voluntary work! Lady Washington for example).

You have everything you need to succeed just put out your heart and start walking!
