Therapy?

November 26th, 2024

I have been using online therapy for over a year, probably closer to 2 years and I am in the same exact spot mentally as before I started. I've met with several different therapists, and at this point I feel like I should just stop doing therapy all together because my pockets are far from bottomless, and I have seen no results. I assume the problem is me not therapy, but I have no idea where to turn next. If you have any suggestions or therapy success stories, I'd love to hear them.

PS. This is basically a repost from another thread where I was kindly told to post something here

@Babbyj

So sorry to hear that the therapy you took did not give you any results so far. Changing long-term thinking patterns can be difficult for sure and it can take a while to find the right approach to the problem in question. It's understandable that you are concerned about the costs if you feel that things do not work for you. I realized you are a new member, so I assume that you took therapy at a different place.

If you want to learn more about what members think about therapy here please check these links

Some people find great comfort in sharing their situation. The support room Sharing Circle is listed as one of the Group Support rooms https://www.7cups.com/connect/groupChatrooms.php

hope this helps.

@Babbyj welcome to 7 Cups. Online therapy is a unique experience. If you want to try 7 Cups online therapy, you can choose a therapist based on your needs for support and can change therapists until you find one you click with. This explains about the text based therapy option and the newer video option.  The text based option allows you to write to yoiur therapist as much as you care to and they reply on weekdays to your messages. There is more here or let us know if questions. Exciting New Video Option for online therapy at 7 Cups   https://www.7cups.com/forum/therapy/General_2432/ExcitingNewFeaturefor7CupsOnlineTherapyandCoaching_319430/

Therapy can be beneficial, but if you have chronic mental health issues it may not be enough by itself. Talk to your primary care doctor or maybe to a psychologist, too.

Also, consider what happens in your sessions: If it's talking about events without much guidance; or if your therapist is helping you to set goals and move forward in any way, however small.

@Babbyj

Hi there!

It can feel frustrating when we feel we are not making progress in therapy. If you feel comfortable with your therapist, have you considered asking for feedback? They might be able to see progress that perhaps you're not even aware of :) It is so important that you find the right fit in therapy as the therapeutic alliance (the professional relationship between you and your therapist) is very important to achieving good clinical outcomes for you in therapy. I do hope it gets better for you as I can understand you have set aside a lot of resources such as time and money trying to get the support that you need.

We are glad you are here with us and we hope you feel like you are making progress in the right direction soon. We have just launched a therapeutic event at 7 Cups happening in December here which you might find useful: https://www.7cups.com/forum/therapy/General_2432/Day125DaysofGratitudeSelfCareandPersonalGrowthfor2024_341520/

Feeling better starts with a single message. Check out my profile and reviews.

@Babbyj

Hello! 👋🏻

I also went to a lot of professionals, but then I decided to try a diferent work path... When I discovered psychanalisys. Then I kept the same professional and the exploration of how I was built throught the events in my life felt really powerful. I feel a lot better nowadays, far from any healing, but better... I would dare to to say I feel in control of me again.

Hope you can find your answers.
