This is how we invalidate someone’s emotions
🚩 Don’t overthink.
🚩 Don’t overreact.
🚩 Don’t be so sensitive.
🚩 It’s all in your head.
🚩 This happens with everyone. What’s new?
🚩 Others have had worse than this.
🚩 It’s not a big thing.
🚩 It wasn’t that bad.
🚩 Stop telling your past stories.
🚩 Just grow up & live in the moment.

Some very common examples of invalidating phrases that a lot of people use even without realizing how insensitive they may be coming across.
@yashggorani
I appreciate the idea of not invalidating someone's feelings, however letting some wallow in self pity and reliving the issue over and over is not helping either. For some, not all keep bringing up an issue is to seek people to comfort constantly. There is a fine line between validating / comfort and enabling people to wallow
Showing compassion in similar experiences and sharing ways you have used or really listening and talking to move past are more helpful IMO. Living in past..... on past issues we can not change does not help us grow and become resilient.
The phrases here are just blunted without context. You can communicate similar thoughts about a person NOT being alone in issue ...or it is not as bad as they think....or past stories over and over only keep wound re opened etc..... CONTEXT matters.
Yes we all should live in moment
i had a rude *** *** listener just moments ago that ended the chat on purpose, shes need therapy herself

This is a good reference. We could say things like, your feelings or thoughts are valid. I may not understand your specific situation, but I do hear what you are saying.
What a wonderful post!
I'm here to add some green flags to it,
often we can easily learn what not to do, but sometimes we need a little
nudge in to knowing what to do instead that is more helpful

✅ It's good that you're aware of your emotions, and it's okay if they feel overwhelming right now.

🚩 It’s not a big thing.
✅It sounds like this is affecting you a whole lot, it's okay that it does. Sometimes the smallest things can overwhelm us, but remember, the small things are just as important as the big things.
Would you like to chat about what's on your mind?
🚩 It wasn’t that bad.
✅ I understand that it might not feel as bad to others, but that's not what matters, what matters is how it feels for you to have experienced this.
🚩 Stop telling your past stories.
✅ I want you to know that it takes a lot of courage to show vulnerability, and that you sharing your story is an inspiration to both me and others. Thank you for sharing your stories.
🚩 Just grow up & live in the moment.
✅ Often our past can affect us in so many different ways, would you like to talk about how your past has affected you to this day?

As someone who hasn't been a parent himself yet, I actually think it's very hard to actually imagine myself in my parents' shoes.
I do feel they could have done things differently to live a happy life but they chose to put others before their mental health as well. They tried to please their parents and also tried to do what was best for their kids. Mental health education in their times wasn't taught or made aware like it is now at least in developing part of the world.
Everything is supposed to hit you differently when you are actually a parent. No matter how much you read about it or prepare yourself mentally, one ends up surprising themselves.
I do feel my parents put my happiness well over their own. They could have travelled the world yet they chose to invest in mine and my siblings' education. Would I be able to do the same for my kids? In a world which is already teaching us to let kids carve their own path in life to lead a healthy life, I doubt I'd be as selfless as them for my own mental well being. It's kind of bittersweet feeling that we won't be like that generation or maybe with time, we'd become more invested in our health and mental well being than others even our dear ones.
Just a food for thought.
