TW: DEATH

The other night i was driving home from work and i witnessed a red car Tone a white suv in an intersection so i immediately call 911. It was raining and the stop lights of the intersection were out (street lights were still on). I pull into a parking lot and run to check and make sure everyone is okay.

There was another guy in a truck who stopped in the intersection and was checking on the older gentleman in the red car while i was checking on the couple in the white suv. I run over to the two men over at the red car and they say the old man is fine.

As i'm telling the 911 operator everyone is okay i hear one of the men yell "move get out of the way"

A second later a big black suv comes out of no where and hits the truck and sends the red car flying. I reach the side walk and turn around and the old man in laying in the road bleeding as he was struck by the red car. He unfortunately died on scene and the women in the black suv was arrested for involuntary manslaughter and suspicion of DUI. I was fortunately physically unharmed but i cant stop thinking about how if i had ran the wrong way or just simply ran a second later if i would have been hurt as well. Although i wasn't physically involved in either accident i can't help but feel upset by it. Is this survivor's guilt? Am i being over dramatic?

@LilacBeauty98 You're not being dramatic, that can be traumatic to see. There's the added aspect that your own safety was at risk at the time too. I know here, victim's services would offer some support, I don't know if that's something you can access where you are.

@LilacBeauty98

Your feelings of distress and concern in the wake of witnessing such a tragic accident are completely understandable. It's not uncommon for people who have been near a traumatic event to experience a range of emotions, including feelings of guilt and remorse, which may lead to rumination.

Take time to acknowledge that your emotional response is a reflection of your deep empathy and connection with others. The fact that you're affected by this shows your fundamental caring nature. 💙

Allow yourself to process these emotions and give yourself time to heal. It's not being overdramatic; it's a salute to your compassion and humanity! *Hugs*

@LilacBeauty98 I am sorry that you experienced such a sad thing as soeone dying. That is really one of life's outcomes that is most difficult for us to come to terms with.

When I witness death, I think that could be me. It really connects me to the reality that life in this body will end some day.

Grieving is complex and there are many stages. Hope you find comfort in knowing you tried your best to help people.
