Convention/covert narcissist update
Hi everyone:
With the pop culture and media convention put of the way, I will say that the trauma bond is still there. I felt it as con got closer and when I was walking around. There was one possible guy who would have been him who seemed to keep staring at me. He was also shaking his head which is something that I have seen him do. So, I decided to start acting obnoxious and purpose along with calling myself names that he called me. I also told myself outside, "This is why I like this one character because he's so relatable." Then he disappeared after that. Other than that, I did not go seek him out along with staying in other areas of con where he would not typically go.
In the meantime, I forgot about him and focused on other issues related to this year's con. EG- I learned that I signed up for a department filled with people who were not very nice to me.
@Summershy
Becoming aware that you signed up for a department filled with people who were not very nice to you hurts and show the importance of being mindful about with whom we surround ourselves. 💙

Thank you so much for all of your support and even though things did not pan out, I was able to forget about him. Rather, I ended up spending my time and energy focusing on why I felt mistreated by that department.
For one thing, I felt like they had worked together for many years and stuck together. All the while, I not only felt left out but they managed to ignore a close friend of mine. Meanwhile, there were two times where I was scheduled to volunteer. Then when I showed up, they told me that they didn't need my help after all. They were every even very rude and nasty about that. One of them even managed to tell me "Go about my business." Finally, there was very little to no communications so I decided to stay away from their department.
@Summershy
Wow, that's really rude. Glad that this is off the table now! You deserve better!

I created a silent vlog on one of my social media feeds through music and captions. However, I ended up mispeaking about them being unreliable when it came to scheduling my shifts. I made it sound like they broke their promise to me altogether and I will own up to that. While the director sent a nice letter and offered me better options and suggestions, she really didn't apologize.
In the meantime, someone else managed to retaliate against me by behaving like a flying monkey. Rather than come talk to me themselve, they managed to attack me in email. In it, they not only accused me of lying and sharing facts about people who I don't know but also said they had receipts to prove that I am a liar.
@Summershy That sounds exhausting, jugglin both the emotional landmine of *maybe* running into him and the regular nonsense of con drama. Oh geez! You managed it, though. You made choices that helped you keep some control of the situation. That’s progress! Way to go!
@ShockTop00
Had I run into him, it's most likely that he would have probably ignored me. All the while staring at me to get attention. Luckily, the con drama didn't come from him. Rather, it came from that department and then a few other volunteers with attitudes and absolutely no people skills.
@Summershy
It seems that you handled the situation wisely and protected yourself both emotionally and behaviorally. It’s great that you focused on the positive aspects of the convention instead of getting caught up with the negative person.
