Throughout our lives, certain events trigger negative thoughts in our minds.

Having negative thoughts can make us feel sad and bring our self-esteem down. They can even take the joy out of life and impact our physical health.

  1. What techniques and or strategies do you use to cope with any negative thoughts that may arise?
  2. How effective are these techniques or strategies working for you?

1) I write down everything on my mind, or if I can't write it, verbalizing out loud every detail. Other times a walk or dancing to music helps.

2) Writing and talking about the negative thoughts illuminate the triggers. Sometimes I don't know what the trigger is or was. Dancing and singing just turns my mood around. Moving my body is necessary. Sometimes when I'm extremely sad I want to stay lethargic, but moving literally changes me.

@amberisreallycool If you are concerned, maybe you could talk to your doctor about any medical issues you have.

@soulsings

Thank you and Desmynn for this post. Great questions!

What techniques and or strategies do you use to cope with any negative thoughts that may arise? It depends on the severity, sometimes it's just enough to distract myself with something like cleaning or doing some other work at home other times I will put on a video with positive self affirmations or do something physically challenging like exercise or harder garden work.

How effective are these techniques or strategies working for you? These coping skills works well for me as a temporary solution but I believe it's necessary to get to the bottom of them, deal with them by using cbt/dbt skills or talk to someone here.

@soulsings, Techniques that I use to cope with negative thoughts that may arise include telling myself the opposite of my negative thoughts and using my negative thoughts as motivation to prove them wrong. These strategies work well for me because they help me achieve what I thought wasn’t possible ❤️.

@Desmynn6789 I find positive self talk can help me deal with the inner critic that is always judging me.

Other times I can accept that I fell short of the goal but I did the best I could. Sometimes that is all I can do.

I just started to use CBT(Cognitive Behavior Therapy), find it very useful. It turns the negative thoughts to positive thoughts, and make me feel good.
