Icebreaker 1: What's your favorite way to listen to music, ex downloading, streaming, CD, or mabey even old school vinyl?

Icebreaker 2: What song are you feeling right now?

Music helps reduce anxiety, offers emotional relief, and facilitates life-affirming social interactions, to name just a few of its benefits.

Music can restore some of the cognitive functions, sensory and motor functions of the brain after a traumatic injury. Music does more than just put us in a good mood. It's a wonder drug that sets a lot of things right: It energises your mind, eases stress, evokes emotions and soothes your soul.

Music therapy can be helpful in expressing old, trapped emotion ,music therapy can be used to help bring the body into a state of relaxation, activating the parasympathetic nervous system (this helps with resting and digesting), and deactivating the sympathetic nervous system (fight, flight, or freeze). Live music along with spoken guided relaxation gives the body a chance to enter into a state of relaxation; thus, giving the body a break from being in constant stress.Music is a language of emotion in that it can represent different feelings and barge into the soul with no boundaries or limitations. People are always challenged by the fact that “no one understands them” or know how they “really feel”, so they turn to music.

Question of the day: What has music done for you?

As always these questions are optional, feel free to say hi drop off or pick up a hug or 2.

Thx so much for participating in this check in

As a bonus I thought I'd leave some quotes.

"Music brings a warm glow to my vision, thawing mind and muscle from their endless wintering.”

– Haruki Murakami, Japanese author

“Music is the moonlight in the gloomy night of life.”

– Jean Paul Friedrich Richter

“The best music… is essentially there to provide you something to face the world with.”

– Bruce Springsteen

What's your favorite way to listen to music, ex downloading, streaming, CD, or mabey even old school vinyl?

Streaming. Spotify is good but annoying because of the ads, and those 3 hour long youtube playlists are almost perfect.

What song are you feeling right now?

River by Josh Groban, Dear Me by Nichole Nordeman

What has music done for you?

Music always helps me calm down and feel better. The feeling of listening to a good song is amazing and I can't believe how often I forget how warm it feels. I'll have to do it more often.

@Fireskye13 Hey Skye - How are you?

Mostly downloads put in play lists - some cd's. Mostly it depends on where I am physically I guess

Today is - Like A Storm - Love the Way You Hate me
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xhubIqV1CI

Falling in Reverse - Popular Monster
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbDxczmbVms

*this one does have some bad language* So discretion I guess for those with triggers

It gives me a voice sometimes - for exactly the reasons you stated. Idk how to put in words sometimes what I'm thinking or feeling or understand the emotions - music helps

Awesome checkin Skye - thank you :)

@Fireskye13

It is always nice to read your posts. I feel identified with them and today is not the exception. I love music, I'm always listening to music and I could not live without music.

Icebreaker 1: What's your favorite way to listen to music, ex downloading, streaming, CD, or mabey even old school vinyl?

I love vinyls. I love those sounds like scratchings. But I only have two vinyls: a classic one and the Platters. I usually listen to youtube. I have lots of lists with my favourite music, especially a list I made that helps me calm down when I'm triggered.

Icebreaker 2: What song are you feeling right now?

It is called De Música Ligera, by Soda Stereo. It talks about a lost love that's over but there is something that will always linger. I don't "feel" it for its lyrics, because I haven't had a love like that, but I feel the melody, and the message is so poetic.

What has music done for you?

So much. It relaxes me, it fills me, it makes me feel "not empty", it helps me to pass time. There are also some heavy songs filled with anger that make me scream and let out all the hatred I feel sometimes. Music is just marvelous. But, above all else, I would like to talk about one particular song that helps me when I'm triggered. A song you know, and I want to thank you because it really helps me when I need it. Thank you so much, Skye. You're firetastic!

Icebreaker 1: What's your favorite way to listen to music, ex downloading, streaming, CD, or mabey even old school vinyl?

I prefer streaming.

Icebreaker 2: What song are you feeling right now?

Slipknot - Duality is speaking to me at the moment.

What has music done for you?

I think my love of music has been a defense mechanism for me. Expressing myself as a child was considered a bad thing most of the time. In my teens music was a way for me to express my feelings withtout verbally doing so. Saying the wrong thing at the wrong time would cause the yelling and shaming and so on. It was personal. If they complained about the music I listed to, it wasn't me being insulted so it hurt less.

Throughout my life music has been a form of entertainment and at times a noisy distraction when I'm over thinking something or otherwise being tripped up by ghosts of the past. Other times the lyrics may say what I wish I could say but me saying it leaves things open for my feelings being invalidated.

Cranking up Mudvayne - Dull Boy I can sing along to the lyrics, "I'm not the reason. It's not my fault. I'm not the problem. I'm not the cause. I'm not your scapegoat. I'm not your god. I'm not your marter. I'll leave you all." and I've expressed how I am feeling without judgement. It's just a song. Right?

For the most part, it is what it is. Entertainment.

@TheDreamer

Hiya dreamer thx for checking in its pawsome to see you.

Streaming that's Cool. I use spotify and my dad uses I Heart raido.

I can see how music was your defense, having your feelings invalidated is horrible, ima sorry you had to experience that. Please know that your feelings are completely valid and deserve to be expressed and heard. Expressing feelings should never be considered bad. Ima glad you had music to help. Just a song, idk, is any song jus a song? Is music jus music? Imo I say no, I feel your feelings in the lyrics you shared thanks for sharing. I look forward to listening to the songs you shared
