Good morning everyone! The topic for this check-in is patience. Patience is vital when striving to overcome traumatic experiences. Recovery is a process and like other processes it takes time to reach the outcomes we desire. In a time where everyone is in a mode of go go go patience can appear to be an act of defiance. Its almost as if there is a cultural notion that we must all hurry to get back to normal, or to simply move on. Moving on however, is rarely ever a simple task and in most cases takes a lot of time and effort. Resilience has been covered in a previous check-in but patience works hand in hand with building resilience.

There is no rush when overcoming trauma. It will take however much time is needed to do so. The skill of patience can be hard to master but developing that skill overtime can really help us out in our lives. Success does not simply happen overnight. Harnessing the ability to be patient whilst continuing ones journey towards overcoming trauma can help one understand that consistent hard work and reflection will more often than not generate desirable outcomes in their life. If an individual is merely expecting everything to come to them within a short period of time, they will inevitably be disappointed and frustrated when a setback or challenge comes their way.

There are many benefits to being patient. It helps us focus on long term goals and leads to us making more rational choices as well. Over time patience helps us to build a skillset. Most importantly however, patience helps us to have better mental and physical health.

Before ending this check-in I will ask these three optional questions.

How are you feeling today?

In what ways have you practiced patience?

What topic would you like to see me cover in a future check-in?

I know this check-in is shorter than most of my other ones and that will not become the new norm going forward. I do try to devote enough time to go in depth on each topic and provide lengthy reads for you all but I decided to make this one short and sweet.

As always I do hope you all have a greater today than yesterday, in hopes for a better and brighter tomorrow!!!

How are you feeling today?

i feel much better after a series of bad days.

In what ways have you practiced patience?

i am really an impatient person, i want to things to be done fast. with all these, what i've benn through, i learn to give myself a slower pace, to tell myself that it is okay for things to take time. and then with that i learn how to breathe because the traumatic event i was in, it feels like it choke the life out of me. so i tell myself to give it time and just let the process be. it was hard at first but i'll survive, going with the slower pace is not so bad after all.

What topic would you like to see me cover in a future check-in?

How are you feeling today?
I'm tired, I think I'm finally getting a little stride back after a series of rapid switching and bad PTSD vibes, and a medication alteration + addition. My PTSD keeps me jumping at everything, which keeps me in flight or fight near constantly if not dissociated. It's so overwhelming lately and I am still adjusting to ways to notice it and ground myself or process it. Anger and wanting to curl up and cry are now often new experiences for me, and I sometimes mistake these not for responses to stimuli but actual feelings and it leads me into mucking things up if I am not careful. I feel like I am doing worse than ever before, but people around me assure me I am doing better... so I may be feeling a lot more internally and not really mucking as much up as I think.

In what ways have you practiced patience? I feel like it's a constant necessity lately. Trying to be patient with myself because demanding I just get over things isn't going to work. I also have to practice patience with others because my PTSD can make me abnormally irritable or irrationally snippy or upset. I try to remind myself it's okay and I've got this. I devise ways to get around as many triggers as possible and then have patience with myself and others as they get implements and we experiment and adjust to simple things like people flicking a light on and off before they enter whatever room I am in. >> It feels like a lot, but I think with patience I will conquer a new norm and eventually begin to conquer even the adjustments I need to be made for now.

I'm not sure enough about what's been covered to really chime in here. But I do have a random question for anyone. Does anyone have any books or anything they suggest for CPTSD?

How are you feeling today? I am feeling rather numb today

In what ways have you practiced patience? I have walked away from the person testing my patience without cussing or responding

What topic would you like to see me cover in a future check-in? I would like to see how to feel emotions when you have been numb or disassociate and can not reconize what the emotions or feelings are. Also how to visualize when grounding and diaphramic breathing does not help so I can meditate. I get pulled into physical experience that makes me afraid of meditation.

I'm brand new here, thank you for this check-in.

How are you feeling today?

I'm feeling dreadful. I called out sick from my work because my mental health is in question. and I didn't think I would be able to help anyone since I need so much help myself.

In what ways have you practiced patience?

Today I have practiced patience by waiting to see if I felt better after a while. I didn't, so I called out sick. I'm trying to be patient with myself for having an 'off day' by not forcing myself to do anything right now, but just do what I can do in the moment

What topic would you like to see me cover in a future check-in?

Grief, like grieving your past self or experiences
