Hey Trauma Community,

Knowing that you are a part of my life makes me feel secure and ...

So thank you to one of your ideas

my topic today and tomorrow Support Systems

What is a support system?

A support system is someone you can turn too in need of Support whether a Family Member, a Friend, Boyfriend/Girlfriend, Husband/Wife, 7cups, etc no matter who it is these are just many examples.

Importance of Developing a Support system

The importance of it is so you have someone you can turn too in time of need if you ever need to talk to someone while in your lows etc it is very useful t have at least a few you can rely on for support.

The goal of social support is to decrease stress. If you are looking to decrease stress by developing a support network, start with people who are already in your life. You may want to make a list and determine who is healthy and positive and who is not. You may want to limit contact with the negative people in your life. Negative people can drain your energy and bring you down. Watch for these types of people who may be negative: blamers, liars, alcoholics, drug abusers, and those who put you down. Your time and energy need to be invested in those who make you feel good about yourself.

Helpful Tips

Review your current family and friends; evaluate who may be helpful.

Try new activities to expose yourself to different people.

Join a book club.

Get active with being on a sports team.

Let important people in your life know that you appreciate them.

Be willing to ask for help.

Checkin Questions

1. have you got a support system yet, who is in your support system?

2. Why do you feel it is important to have a support system?

3. How are you Feeling today anything on your mind you wish to share the good the bad inbetween?

The topic is optional if you rather do just a regular check-in that's perfectly okay

@CaringBrit Hey brit <3 hope you're doing well.

1. have you got a support system yet, who is in your support system?

I have a support system and I honestly have many. xD I have my online support system like here on 7 cups and my online friends from various groups. I have my real life support systems from different friend groups that I'm a part of and also different activities I'm a part of as well like debate and mental health. And I have a tight knit group of close people that I trust that are individually supportive of me and I appreciate them a lot.

2. Why do you feel it is important to have a support system?

I think it's important to have a support system because we all need some people to fall back on in case we can't hold up on our own and it's also just really nice to support others as well.

3. How are you Feeling today anything on your mind you wish to share the good the bad inbetween?
I'm feeling really tired and a bit burnt out today honestly. :( I think I haven't been taking care of myself much in the past two days with sleeping and working a bit too hard on everything so I need to figure out how to let myself take a break which is more difficult for me than it is for others. I'll figure it out though, I always do. :)

Take care Brit and thank you for posting :)

that's awesome to hear Atticus glad to hear you have many in your support system

indeed that's a great reason why

aww no hope you figure out the self-care soon as burnout is no fun even if you try to introduce small amounts a day something small that recharges you a movie on Netflix youtube vids twitch streamers if you watch it chill to music maybe do one of your hobbies and definitely the other needs too

@CaringBrit I don't have a support system as such except being able to post here on 7cups but most of the time I don't say much. I find it very hard to trust people and be able to be open about my thoughts but also know that this is something I need to overcome as I can't do this by myself, been trying to but I'm just a failure at it

My counselor on here

2. Why do you feel it is important to have a support system?

It's important so that when I feel sad and alone like now that I have someone to help me through it

3. How are you Feeling today anything on your mind you wish to share the good the bad inbetween?

I just feel very sad and alone, and wonder why life has to be so hard. I feel so isolated. I don't have any support but my counselor. I need a larger support system.

@CaringBrit Thanks. I've tried the listeners to a limited extent. I feel pretty withdrawn right now, so I don't have anyone else.
