Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-In Friday April 20th 2018
Hello Survivor Family, I hope alle are well. Today I thought I would explain a saying I use here often as it is a bit more significant than most see. And since I have been explaining it to a few I thought I would share with alle. I am refering to when you see me say "Iss Lifa" (pronounced eese leefah). This is a saying as goes back to the dawn of history with my people. Iss is the olde Norse word for Ice, Lifa is life but also the life force. Using these two words together on the surface says "This is life". But my people often speak and write in double and tripple meaning. Iss isn't just Ice, it's a glacier we're now referring to here. When one of us speaks what seems to be a doomed note with seemingly no resolution and I speak Iss Lifa, I speak on that yes life can be cold and hard like a glacier. But to understand this one must understand the nature of a glacier. Yes glaciers are hard and cold, and may seem impassable and permenant like a mountain. The fact is that glaciers are constantly moving. Expanding and contracting, breaking and falling into smaller pieces. Change in a glacier takes a very long time, but they are constantly changing. They may move so slow no one ever notices, or they may break and fall or slide. As slow as it may be, when a glacier does move, it moves with such a powerful force as can carve great valleys in the earth, and when a piece breaks and falls into the sea it can make a powerdul wave that can capsize a ship. In the water a glacier can flip without warning striking ships or sinking them by wave. Iss is slow, so slow most never see, but when they move it is an unstopable force.
Change Iss Lifa. Change always moves slow, but moves with great power and can become unstopable. Often the changes we make in our lives are like this. With this month of Child Abuse Awareness, every phost we alle make, everytime we use our voice to speak out, we set change in motion. Sometimes rapid, mostly slow, but when set in motion properly, unstopable. Heat can make a glacier smaller, but really that also makes it slippery and faster to move. Always use your voice, speak out against what you know to be wrong and set change in motion. Don't fear a little heat, just make motion faster. Alle the greatest lessons we have to learn can be found everywhere, just have to open your heart and eyes to find them.
So how are you alle today? Any words of wisdom you wish to share? A funny tale perhaps? Still accepting recipies and dish suggestions, so drop us a phost an say hi an anything else that may be on your mind. I do appologise in advance that my responses will be slow today, I'm repiping my water distribution in my new home but will be in and out as often as I can.

Speakers Corner - Life after Trauma audio event
This Event is now Open!!!!

To often Child Abuse renders it's victims silent, unheard, invisible. They often feel unable to turn to anyone. Afraid of being blamed, judged, rejected, shunned, being disbelieved, afraid of the consequences if they tell etc. And above all else afraid of being hurt once more.
This event allows Survivors to speak about recovery, hope, about how to support others, how to help children who are still going through this today, how you can prevent children from suffering what they went through. They want you to listen to their messages. For you to give them the voice they never had as children.
Please see here for more details join this great event and hear the Survivors of Child Abuse have a voice now!

hey, just a heads up, i'm probably not the only one having a problem with the tags at the moment (it says it can't find the page when i click on it) and thought you guys might want to be aware...
that is all.
@Tenacity37 Ya strange innit? I noticed that this morning too. I don't think it's nescessary to chase anyone down on this one, alle will know.
Hope you are well and life is going your way.
@Tenacity37 Yeah, appears to be a sitewide bug, or at least widespread. Ever since the latest verification update to forums went live yesterday I keep getting 404 errors on notifications for subscribed threads that haven't been deleted (including this one). Likely something got borked in the backend.
@melliotm Thanks for popping in today hon.
How have you been? It's been a few whiles.
@Raveninthelabrynth Thanks Raven -- I'm doing okay. One baby tortoise step at a time. 🐢 I'm still here, just been quietly hiding under an invisibility cloak in the margins 😊
Good morning everyone and @raveninthelabyrinth ! Im doing okthis morning. Yesterday had some ups and downs, lots of self reflection post therapy as well as some concern for a friend (still today also). Im realizing I am emotionally holding on to some unfinished legal business and probably need to move forward with it in order to be able to let go of some anger. Im also starting to get a better understanding of my triggers and what the big emotions and sensations attached to them are meaning which is a tiny bit overwhelming as it means I need to take some action.
@purpleWest8143 Glad yer doing better today. Ja lingering business keeps woe lingering. Hugs hon we're here with you.
@Raveninthelabrynth thank you Raven , on both accounts 😉
Aaaahh I needed this today.
I feel so suffocated by my trauma, depression, anxiety, that I have a hard time getting anything done. I begin to get into this cycle of self hate and anger that I'm never going to get better because I can't see the production of my effort.
The iceburg. I am making small progress. I can eventually make it to a healthy place again but I need to have patience with myself.
Iss Lifa ❤️ Thank you!
@sensibleDime5187 I too can get into some messed up cycles. The trick it to recognise as soon we can that we're in one then redirect our thoughts and efforts. Takes time to master like everything, but it is already set in motion. An much like the glaciers, when you develop enough momentum you too will be unstopable.
hi!
i had my first therapy appointment with my new therapist today! she seems really nice, so i'm hopeful things will work out with her. over all today's been a pretty good (but busy!) day!
Hi @Moonberrycat !
It's nice to hear some positive news from you today. I hope you're day is full of eustress rather than distress (: happy to hear you've been connected!
@Moonberrycat hi! What a wonderful first meeting then - it sounds like she was able to make you feel comfortable. 👏
Thank You Alle for sharing today. I'm glad I was able to give some new perspective in an olde way today. To be able to give folks a different way to see things and relate to the things going on around us we overlook in this busy world is a priceless gift. Well Done Alle!
Thank You Daisy for stepping in and helping me out through my busy time. You are a wonderful person and it's a great pleasure to call you Team Mate.
*Raven bows to Alle an fly's away
@Raveninthelabrynth Sorry I'm a little late to the forum,, but today started out well enough, technically yesterday into the few hours of today, but everything has gone to shit now so yeah.
@FangsInsanity Sorry for your woes Fang. and no it's not too late to phost here.
Ooh, btw please no bad words in the forums. Try a Phoohey instead
@Raveninthelabrynth
Hey Raven, I know, wring check-in date 😋 but yesterday wasn't so good, but I just have to tell you that I love what you said about the glaciers and change, it's an amazing picture... Seeing it that way is a bit like just accepting what happens, working with what we have, if it's cold the glacier freezes and moves slowlier, if it's warmer it melts and moves faster and that's just fine... Whatever life gives us we should make the best of it... Ok, it's getting late and I'm getting a weird mood...
Hope you're alright and you'll soon be done with your moving, seems like you're already moving for ages 😂 oh and I'd love to have one of the baby bunnies 😊 all I have here are dust bunnies 😂🐰 take good care of you
