Can I just turn my brain off? I am tired of relating to things in ways that a person with a trauma background would (sometimes also called being triggered, sometimes different from that). I mean, like, can't I just sit down and watch a movie as "regular" person would? Does *everyone* have triggers and/or things they don't like to remember from their past? Whether that was when they were age 5 or just two days ago.

Yes, Rainbow, this is the start of a new weekend. I still greatly dislike weekends. One major reason for this is that all the offices that I'd usually reach out to are closed - my counselor's office, our church office, and phone hotlines that I would call. Sure, leaving a message is a possibility or sending an email, but they won't get those until Monday morning anyway. (sadness)

I didn't know where to put this in the forum. It's mostly related to this section I guess (Trauma and PTSD) but I haven't searched around here enough to see if this is really the place for it. I hope this is okay, or you may feel free to move it as needed. Thanks for reading. ~ Platy

@cyanPlatypus6370 Yup. Weekends are tough for me as well, for similar reasons. I find my social support network is less available too, what with parties and family gatherings and such (especially on holiday weekends). I was fortunate that I had the energy this morning to get up and go to my daughter's soccer debut (I even showered and everything). And I've pretty much given up watching most popular entertainment (or follow and engage with current events, another hobby/daily routine of mine that is on hiatus) due to unconscious overstimulation/triggering/etc. It all seems to internalize/personalize with disturbing, unconscious ease. Napflix.tv is a vital resource for distraction ATM.

@cyanPlatypus6370 Hi Platy, your fine to have posted where you did :) and its okay to vent too. I hear and appreciate that weekends are tough for many people and it sounds for you, the weekend does not always bring welcome relief? I guess for Survivors, they all have their own experiences and with that too comes different things such as triggers that can affect them. For some people they find certain times of year difficult, or certain times of the day but have no problem with weekends, whereas others will. A lot of people suffering with trauma issues and ptsd have triggers but again this can be different for each person. I appreciate when places are shut for the weekend it can also mean a lack of support or people to reach out to. What do you feel you could do to make your weekends a little easier? Would it help to look at the support you have in place and see if this can be built upon to help you get through difficult times?

Today was pretty good!! Today was my brother's college graduation :). My parents have done nothing but bad mouth each other since their divorce almost 9yrs ago, and they were both there today, so I was a little worried about that beforehand. But everyone was there and everyone got along with everyone! My mom and dad even took a picture together with my brother! Then me, my mom, my brother, and my brother's girlfriend went out to grab a quick lunch, and we're going out for dinner when my step dad gets off work 😊

I wasn't as perfectly healthy in my food choice for lunch as I've been at home this last week, and I won't be for dinner either, but it was amazingly delicious and still really healthy!

@BeeLeigh Sounds like you had a good day Bee and were able to celebrate some achievements there? I hear you were worried about how your parents would get on, and Im glad that the day went as well as it could. smiley What did your brother graduate in?

yeah, I had some pretty great food today too that was still healthy, and I even had fish, which I'm not really a fan of but it's good for me so I had a little bit. My brother got an associates of applied science in industrial technology, and a technical certificate for industrial technology, and he also got his certification for industrial electrician. :)

@BeeLeigh oh wow, that sounds a great achievement for him and you sound happy for him too Bee which is nice to hear :) Have to admit fish is not something I particularly like but its good to hear your finding ways to eat heathily and it sounds as if you may have found things easier the past few days with regards finding healthy alternatives?

Yeah, there's a lot of us grandkids, and while I'm the oldest, he's the first to graduate college, so it was a big deal. For food I've mostly been eating fruit and Cheerios, and I have milk with added Omega 3, and orange juice. I need to go grab some veggies cuz I just haven't gotten any, but there's some really good frozen ones I like that you steam in the microwave. Blueberries, grapes, and Cheerios are my snack food replacements. This past weekend I ate out three times, and had an avocado chicken sandwich and an apple, grilled chicken tenders with dipping sauces that probably weren't the healthiest but close enough, and apple filled crepes, fruit, the fish, sweet potatoes, pasta salad, and a teeny tiny apple dessert thing. Then I had chicken sausage and chips and salsa at my gramma's yesterday, and snacked on some fruit. So, I think I did pretty well, and it wasn't bad! There was definitely a lot of stuff I would have rather had, but I liked what I did have so it's not too bad now. Maybe some day I'll stop craving cheese 😜

I found out that binge-watching series works much better for keeping me calm and distracted than switching back and forth between browser tabs, refreshing my inbox, refreshing favorite websites, checking my phone, counting the hours since I've heard from my bf and deciding that he doesn't really care about me... Who would have thought!

@hereigoagain ummm yes water is wet, lol especially when its pouring down with rain and your having to walk the dog LOL I find it helpful sometimes to just chill out and binge watch a series I like and it sounds like for you this can be a good distraction :) What makes you feel that your boyfriend doesn't care about you? Has he given you any reason specifically to feel this way?

Well I'm traumatized by not being cared about, so I don't really need much reason to get that feeling again while he's not physically around or constantly reassuring cheeky

After all our heartfelt talk, my mom is spending Mother's Day with others. I had to give her a big pep talk before even and push myself aside. It's petty, it's just an old wound, I guess.

I got her a card and a gift she won't be here for.

God help me let the past go. Like the time she wasn't there for me when I was assaulted. She said I didn't have to live there much longer but she did - what of her reputation? It really hurt. And as we all know he did it to someone else and wound up in prison. I kept silent.

I caught my husband looking for swingers online. While I was away on the overnight trip. I don't even know anymore.

I need to find some ways to learn to sleep at night. Having drinks didn't even work. Still sober and still wide awake.

Earlier today I did sleep and I awoke like I'd been fighting something and felt physically bad. I guess I tend to overlook stuff like that but it's more common than I'd like to admit.

Have you tried Sleepytime Tea? Or any tea with chamomile in it should work. Melatonin works for a lot of people too.

@BeeLeigh

Ive been meaning to. I bought some melatonin. Guess it works best outside of the bottle.

Thank you for the tips and hope things are going good with your family today. : - )
