Good timing -- I'm feeling a lot of uncomfortable feels today and not dealing well with an overall sense of vulnerability. :(

Awful sleep, awful, awful nightmares last few nights. Ugh. Just can't seem to shake irrational overthinking lately and the feelings of anxiety that it provokes.

In particular, health anxiety is RAGING today crying.png I made the unfortunate error in judgement of going online after I got scratched by my big jerk of a black cat (because how dare I shoo him off the kitchen counter?) and now Im experiencing panic tremors because I've convinced myself that I'm going to get cat scratch disease or a staph infection of the worst case variety (despite me having a strong immune system). Am more prone to health phobia after my mother has had a heart episode it should be noted (which she did this past week).

Anyhow, I washed it out and applied bandaids, so hopefully everything will be fine. Though he gave me a good swipe, it only bled a little bit. Alas the internet is not designed to provide first aid/health info of the soothing, non-sensationalist variety.

I feel silly shaking with fear and beset with cognitively distorted what-ifs over something so silly and innocuous, and yet here we are (lack of sleep and a cruel subconscious assault doesn't help matters).

And just my luck, my psychiatrist cancelled clinic hours on the day I was scheduled to have an appointment (this upcoming Wednesday), my first since the end of May. I have been waiting for a callback to reschedule since last Thursday. So I feel doubly helpless.

@melliotm Sounds like your having a pretty rough day Mellio and I hope it improves for you and that the anxiety your feeling begins to ease up for you. Have you considered writing down what you can remember from your nightmares and sharing these with a counsellor/therapist? Sometimes just writing them down can help in the sense it gets them out on paper, rather than churning about inside you. The problem as well with the internet when looking for information, advice and so on, is that its a platform for all kinds of information, and some of it is plain wrong, some of it is factually incorrect, some of it is useful and some of it is a bit like scaremongering. I have two cats and got scratched, even bitten by mine on occasion, especially when it comes to poking tablets down them or cutting their nails and so far, I have no got any infection. There are some things to be careful about eg pregnant women around cat litter/faeces but cats on the whole are pretty clean creatures. You can always ask your doctor for an up to date tetenus but the chances of catching an infection are slim. Obviously with anything, if your worried, consult your doctor. But try and be careful with what you research on line and take some things with a pinch of salt.

Has your psychiatrist rescheduled your appointment?

@dancingRainbow45 Yes, I have been a cat owner for years now as well (have 3 of them at the moment), bitten, scratched, etc as well. Nary an infection. Is hardly even the worst scratch I've ever received. Is entirely irrational on my part, and more indicative of where my symptoms are at overall today (ie, feeling especially vulnerable and helpless after a sequence of increasingly poor nights coupled with worries about my mother). Feels better to write out my benign fears, instead of allowing them to fester and become psychologically toxic. Which probably would hold true about my dreams as well, except it's picking at a far more malignant wound.

@dancingRainbow45 And no, I'm still waiting to hear back from the shrink about rescheduling. I'm calling the clinic on Tuesday morning if I don't hear back tomorrow. Honestly, despite the usual appointment dread, I was counting on this appointment to talk about a lot of my recent issues and how they're manifesting, whether my meds need adjustment, etc. :-(

@DeborahUK

Love your picture! I hope your day has been a good one.

Had a nice moment today. Doing our usual morning walk in the local Domain with my oldest dog and the bub who is a young border collie. She is nervous around new dogs and usually barks which is her fear response. Well another dog appeared and Big girl went up to greet him. Bub went very still.. no bark... and watched. Then I let her go and she tentatively went and greeted the new dog. The owner then said he's an aggressive dog! Well i said he wasn't aggressivve with these two...maybe could read that they were non threatening. Fortinately! So delighted that Big girl is teaching Bub.
