Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in Friday January 25th
Hey Trauma Family,
Woohoo so we are literally on the days of the weekend in Britain we class friday as a weekend since its near the end like Saturday and Sunday and guess what more ACT series so yayyy.
We are on Day 8 of ACT
Day 8: Understand Your Emotions- Goal: To understand your emotions and how to more accurately describe them.
this particular topic many can find extremly difficult and that is perfectly ok Trauma Survivors im sure can all relate to this so things take time so if you find yourself saying you cannot understand them right now no worries in time you eventually will in your own time.
Rather than trying to control what you think or feel, what if you could learn to see that you are merely having thoughts and experiencing emotions? Keep in mind that an emotion is simply a one word description of how you are feeling, such as anxious. A thought can be a description of your emotion-that is, putting it into words, such as I feel anxious. Emotions can be like clouds floating through the sky. You can simply notice them instead of embracing them or activating them.
Emotional Vocabulary Exercise:
Reflect on two problems youve faced recently and the emotions you were feeling at the time. You can look through some emotional vocabulary here Managing Emotions Self Help Guide if you are struggling to name your emotions.
Bonus Activity:
Share your thoughts below to better understand this concept.

@CaringBrit I find it very difficult to share how I feel, so much knotted and twisted together inside, I dont have the words to explain the feelings. I just know they hurt a lot
@crimsonLime6525 i understand did any of the resources i shared like the videoshelp you at all
@CaringBrit
👋 thank you.
Talking about things is really hard and very vulnerable.
Hi. Just wanting to do the regular check in since I'm kinda freaking out. I have been going to physical therapy and have been getting flashbacks while I'm there and it's getting worse the more I go and I have an appointment today and I'm worried about not being able to move forward with physical care if I stop but my therapist says we can't more forward with addressing my ptsd while I keep getting retraumatized. Stuck in this loop of barriers
@Mashedpotato364
Heyy There Mashed thats fine the topic is optional so no worries there , sorry to hear your freaking out right now as the post you did was 2 hours ago have you attended your appointment yet or still not been yet. if you have been how did it go have you told them it gets worse being there
@CaringBrit
Hi thank you for responding. I did go but i didn't tell them anything because i m.too scared to let them know what is going on with me. i just cried before I went and that helped a little. I wish I could know who to trust so that i can feel more comfortable to tell someone there
Thank you for sharing the video links. The first one on Intense Emotions and Healing Trauma spoke to me. I was so glad to hear the speaker acknowledge that emotions are essentially our friends - even depression, dissociation, etc. I truly do not remember hearing this, this way before so it was just what I needed.
I do find it hard to share my emotions. Even those that ask me "How are you doing?" And know my trauma background, don't like to acknowledge that all of our emotions are part of the whole being and quickly want to shut me down when I express any troubles I'm experiencing (not here on 7Cups, but out in society). In that way of being shut down from the outside, I have a tendency to shut down internally.
