Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in: Monday, 15th of July, 2019
HI everyone! Hope everyone had a good weekend.
I've been trying to pick up some books to read over the weekend but couldn't really pick. I went to a book store and sat around for couple hours just reading first few pages of all the varieties of books I was interetsed in. I came home empty handed but I did learn that I actually enjoy the searching process of a good book. To be honest, I rarely find best seller to interest me all that much. I feel like I find one book that no one heard about that I find it brilliant. Maybe I have unpopular taste in literature? Not sure! How about you? Is there anything that you're not all about the "popular"? I know many of us prefer music that's not always on the radio. Is there anything you prefer that might be considered " unpopular"?
I wanted to take this time to really find parts of life I've never explored. Any ideas where one like myself can find something new?
It can be quite difficult to introduce ourselves to new ideas and something out of our norm. But I've always found pieces of me in random places I decided to explore. I hope that you too can find another missing pieces through trying new things.

@Jackie I sometimes read amazon reviews before reading a book. Being a writer, I have so many writing friends, I talk to them on my Facebook. So, I do have a sort of process.
I will confess, I am a song Stealer. When I'm in a friendship or relationship I will listen to so he others are into and if they ate catchy or mean something to me, than I will claim them for myself.
However with books, I will always give credit, especially if they are a writing friend.
I've never been all that into mainstream movies, books, music, etc. If I end up liking something mainstream I either liked it way before it was popular or I get into it when it's not all over the place anymore. I think it's cool that you were able to just hang out at a bookstore and tryout some books even if you didn't find one that caught your attention. The last book I read is "The Body Keeps the Score" a book about trauma research. Those are the kind of books I usually go for.

Invader Zim fan, though? ;) How popular is Jhonen Vasquez these days? Looks like IZ is getting a Netflix movie, and since I have no one else to share in a 'WHUH??!' about that, what say you?
I don't really keep track whether I like something popular or unpopular. It is more difficult to find the 'unpopular' works, which is a shame.
Browsing bookstores is one of my favorite pastimes! I enjoy going to big bookstores and rearranging the titles so they have an intriguing or ironic progression. For instance, these three titles were in the same vicinity, so I put them all next to each other:
"Irresistible: The Rise of Addictive Technology and the Business of Keeping Us Hooked" by Adam Alter
"How Google Works" by Eric Schmidt & Jonathan Rosenberg
"Sensemaking: The Power of The Humanities in the Age of the Algorithm" by Christian Madsbjerg
There is endless fun to be had in a bookstore, haha.

I find that I happen to stumble upon new avenues, rather than seek them. I think you just being open to the new is a magnet for adventure. :) I'm also incredibly picky with books, but I really adore Terry Pratchett's Discworld series! The Color of Magic is the first novel. It's about a human tourist in a magical world, who meets up with a failed wizard. They have capers together, and it's very clever and very funny.
