Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in Saturday 12th of January, 2019

Happy Saturday to all of you! I am sooo happy to hear from you again!
How are you feeling today? :)
How has this last week been for you? Do you have anything you would like to share about it? :)
Soo...well, I am not the best of taking care of myself physically especially when the weather gets cold so I might be a bit sick right now - again - that we have got hit with some really cold weather here.
With that said, I am sorry if this is not the best check-in of mine, this cold I caught is annoying >.<

With that in mind I thought I would focus on physical self-care for today :)
Of course, I know that the first thing that pops into the mind of many people is to get in shape and get to the gym when it comes to physical self-care but there are just so much more to it and I am really not the best with it.
For example I do not drink enough, at all, especially at work, There are day when I go through my whole shift with like half a litre of water as well as I am not always making sure that I am wearing warm enough clothes or just simply having my zipper open on my jacket while I am out "only for a few minutes anyway".
What do you think, what are some essential and easy ways one can practice physical self-care? What is one way you do practice it or would like to practice it?

Of course, as usually, there is absolutely no pressure on you to answer any of the above questions, you are always welcome to just say hi or to just sit with us if you ever feel like it. Also, there is always the option of building an awesome pillow fort, especially in this cold weather I have hear, I would be glad to do so anyway! ^-^

Welcome here! We are really glad to have you here with us.
I am really proud of you for opening up here as I know it may have been really scary and hard. :)
I am really sorry to hear that you have had to go through so much bit I think it is really amazing of you taht you are taking care of your son and after everything you are still standing tall for him and I agree, you can and will get through this and we are also here for you if there maybe anything we may be able to help you with. :)
I do look forward to hear from you more and get to know you better but, of course, there is no pressure on you to do so just if and when you may feel comfortable joining us here :)
Stay strong and awesome!
hi redmark. i'm feeling a bit anxious this morning as i had some bad dreams last night, which is not uncommon for me. i'm ok now though, once i got up.
for physical self care i like to stretch and do yoga for just a few minutes every morning, and do some meditation and deep breathing. i find that grounds me and puts me in a healthy frame of mind to start the day. i hope you feel better soon!
Hey there @crimsonSpruce612 *offering safe hugs*
It is always so nice to hear from you around here!
I am sorry to hear that you have had to deal with such dreams last night, I can imaine it has to be hard on you but I want you to know that we are here for you and together we can get through this. I do believe in it and I do believe in you anyway! ^-^
Oh....stretching is a really nice way to start a day and I have heard a lot of good things about yoga as well although I have not tried it yet. Meditation sure is an amazing way to ground yourself and just a few deep, long breaths can do wonders as well. :)
Also, thank you very much, I am trying to get as much rest as I can this weekend to get better. :)
Stay awesome!
@redmark
I am physically sick at the moment, so self care meant contacting the doctor...and now is taking the meds, letting myself rest, having a hot drink, etc.
Feeling ok emotionally right now.
Hey there @ReallyRuth *offering safe hugs*
We are really glad to have you here with us!
I am sorry to hear that you are being sick. I can imagine it has to be hard but I hope that now with the right meds and a lot of rest and hot drinks you will get better soon! :)
I am glad to hear that you are feeling emotionally okay with all that sickness going on still. ^-^
Stay awesome!
Hello Red. I love your enthusiasm and positivity as always. Please do try and take care of yourself physically as you matter to us here in the Trauma Support Community.
For physical self care, I try to make sure I eat enough, as I was not always good about that in the past And it is still sometimes a struggle. Especially if Im feeling low emotionally. If I dont eat as much I just dont have as much energy and can kind of numb out. But when I eat enough that I have energy and I have to feel more things, which is a little overwhelming sometimes. I do a lot better with it now than I did the last few years though. I also try to make sure I include fruits and vegetables in my diet.
This week...I cant really remember it but I think it was long. Lots of flashbacks and lots of feelings that I had tried to hide from myself for years. And Im getting better and feeling safer but its overwhelming to deal with. Lately, a lot of times I feel like I dont even deserve to be alive. From the abuse. I get hit pretty frequently lately about how much better off everyone probably would be without me. I fight the thoughts of course, but it makes me feel so tired sometimes. Im so tired of despising everything about myself but thats the way its been for so long. Sometimes I dont know how to be any different. Being nice to myself & caring about myself seems scary sometimes.
Hey there @pioneeringBanana1598 *offering safe hugs*
It is always really nice to hear from you around here!
I am glad you find my stupid smiling face - that's how I call it anyways :P - useful. I do try my best to take care of myself it's just a work in progress still I guess, thank you very much for your kind words. :)
Oh, yep, eating enough and healthy is really important. :)
I know it can be really hard at some days when you are feeling really low to get yourself to do so but I am really proud of you for trying your best. Of course, I understand that sometimes it is just easier - or feels easier - to be numb but I want you to know that we are always here for you to help you face those feelings and I believe in that we can do this together and I do believe in you :)
No pressure tho, of course just if and when you feel ready. ^-^
Oww....you definitely deserve to be alive. Or, well, I can tell you that I am happy that you are alive that I have got to know the amazing person you are anyway! :)
You know, I am sorry that you had to go through so much and I know it can be really, really hard to believe it but it is not yoiur fault. It is not defining you. What is defining you is the strength and bravery you show now while facing it and it is really amazing. I am really proud of you for it and I want you to know that you are not alone in this, we are here for you and yes, you do deserve it, you do deserve to be taken care of, to be loved. You are important and definitely not a burden or bothering anyone. You are amazing and we do love you here and always glad to see you here!
I mean, I know this may not be much from a random person from the internet but I want you to know anyways :)
Stay strong and awesome!
My week has been truly humbling and I am so grateful for it: I've moved, and got hired at a new job! Lots of transitions, so it's stressful, and unfortunately so busy that I haven't had a lot of time to do my yoga, or I'll choose junk food instead of something healthy for ease of convenience. I'm trying to drink more tea and do my yoga every single morning before I start my day. This is even my first check-in in a while! It's been good, but stressful. I'm trying to worry less, so I'll let it go <3 Thanks for these check-ins, they keep me grounded.
I do have a question, though! That wheel of self care mentions coffee as a piece of the pie. Is that mostly a joke kinda thing, or does coffee really help? I tend to avoid it because I don't wanna not be able to function without caffeine...
Hey there @betterchoices *offering safe hugs*
We are really glad to have you here with us!
yay! That sounds really awesome. I remember that you have mentioned earlier in one of the check-ins that you were stressed about moving but I am really happy to hear that it has wnet well and that you have got a new job as well! ^-^
Of course I know changes can be scary and really stressful and I think you do deserve a pass on skipping a few morning of yoga and eating some junk food while everything was still all around the place, the important thing is that now, as everything is getting settled, you are making sure to take your time and take good care of yourself again. I mean, if you ask me, that is pretty awesome of you! :)
I don't drink coffee. I mean, I think it is more of a personal thing as I know people as well who cannot really start their day without coffee, so for some it is part of their way of making their day start and get through it. In general, I know people who are kind of addicted to caffeine, which is not good, but I also know people who just have this as a habit that they make a coffee every once in a while, sit down, maybe even talk with someone, or just enjoy it themselves and actually just recharge a bit, not necessarily by the caffeine but by the whole action of making and drinking the coffee.
I mean, it can be useful in that way but overall I think it is totally okay to not have coffee as part of your self-care either. :)
Stay awesome!
@redmark Wow! You noticed I moved! It must take a lot of work to keep up with everybody's lives and even remember individuals! Thanks so much for taking the time to do this for all of us, we really appreciate it! Thanks for giving me a pass on the stuff I haven't kept up with, too... That eased some of my stress! I'm so thankful I've got people like you encouraging me! I hope everything with you is going well, too. Also thanks for indulging my question about coffee! It helped me sort out! Have a happy day!
