This was just such a long week, isn't it? I mean, it is sooo awesome to hear from you once again, I have really missed all of you! heart

How are you feeling? :)

How was this week for you? Do you have anything on your mind you would like to share? I would be glad to listen anytime here! :)

As I have mentioned this was just a long week. Some of you have had Thanksgiving as well to deal with which can be really hard and draining and or, really anything else.

I, for example, had to go out with some co-workers yesterday in the crowded capital city to drink - of course - which I do not really like and just left me drained.

This was me jumping into my bed when I have got home :P

Because of this, for this weekend I have not got much planned just getting some rest and doing some self-care, something that I do often overlook.

I mean, for me, it is sometimes hard to actually convince myself to just take some time off and it is not just being "useless" so I do not do it enough and I know very well that it can be really hard for some of you as well but it is important and so are you and you deserve some time for yourself.

I am curious tho, what is your favourite way of taking care of yourselves? What is one healthy way that helps you after a hard day or week or so to just recharge a little bit? :)

Can you maybe do it sometimes this weekend? :)

I mean, I know I will just have my teddy bear with me - the big one :P - and just watch some videos on youtube or even go for some movies and just spend time with my favourite people here for now! ^-^

Of course, as usually, there is no pressure on you to answer any of this questions, if you just want to say hi or just sit here with us it is totally fine as well and you are always welcome to do so! *offering safe hugs*

I'm going to try to explain what is going on in my head. I don't know if anyone will understand. I was once told I would die alone and misunderstood, and I do think that might be true.

Today I feel this color:

I feel crushing darkness. A weight holding me down. It feels like everything and nothing at the same time. My mind captivated on a thought and it refuses to let it go. The tears threatening to fall again. I know these are not "feelings" as normally expressed. I stared at my feelings chart for a long time trying to find the right words. They are all just words. They don't make sense to me. I ripped up the chart. I have feelings, I have thoughts and they are in my head but I don't know the words to get them out. I feel trapped inside myself, impossibly broken. @Kate @Redmark

Hi, Ideal.

First, I would like to congratulate you on how well you have described how you are currently feeling. I am truly sorry that you are experiencing such darkness and such a hard time right now.

* offers a candle that you can carry with you so it's always just a tiny bit brighter*

I just want you to know that you're not alone. I can only imagine how terrible things are feeling right now. We can get through this together. Step by step. The dark times do pass. Crying is okay, letting it out is okay, too.
Would you like to tell us more about that recurring thought that you can't let go of?

Try to remind yourself that things will eventually get better. How do you feel about doing something nice for yourself today? Some self-care "me " time. What do you think you could do?

*offers safe hugs* We're here with you.

@Ayla

Thank you for the hug. I have a hard time accepting that things will get better. That has not been my experince. The thoughts are that I need to escape. I need to step out. I need to make the madness stop. I don't know how to translate them better than that. I have been trying to do self care things. The act of self care in itself is somewhat overwhelming currently. What do I like? How do I fix it? What things do people expect me to do? It all seems the opposite of escape. I know some ways to experience this escape, I also know these are not good. These thoughts make the darkness and the separation between myself and others more apparent.

It is certainly hard to connect to people after all you may have been through, I know that but on the other hand I do really believe that it is possible. I mean, I am usually this naive and optimistic, you know me by now :P

The thing with struggling like this and with mental illnesses is that they can lie to us. You know that shroud of darkness can seem inpenetrable and something that may not even be worth trying and I have been sitting in such darkness for quite some time. I mean, not that my darkness is the same as yours, of course not, but still, I have found that actually people could here me. I thought they would not but they actually heard me once I gathered my strength and tried to break through that darkness holding me down. Of course, you need the right people tho, not everyone is willing to listen but you can certainly be heard, I can tell you that.

Desciribing feelings are certainly hard and I am terrible at it as well, if I am honest. I mean vocalizing all that you feel and think somtimes feels impossible but the thing is you do not have to. What surprised me was how people were just genuenly caring once I have told I am not feeling well and I may need someone to be there for me. And they did, they were just there, they listened.

I mean, it is just so udnerrated nowadays, just being there and just listening if time comes to it. I know people usually want to "help" want to solve your problems but there are people who just want to be there just sitting with you and, yes, there are people out there who are willing to take that time :)

I mean, I know this is just over the internet, but for example I am here as well :)

I mean, okay, I do not know if this whole thing made any sense, but I hope it did. I just want you to know that I think there is certainly a way out of that darkness and I am willing to help trying to find it with you if I can :)

@redmark

The darkness seems so deep. Such that I am encapsulated in it. I do not have your optimism, but I often wish that I did. I do not have people outside of here. There is no one to ask and even if there was my inability to properly verbally communicate would make attempting to contact them futile. It will always be this way.

People assume, based on my lack of facial expression and overall communication, that I do not have feelings. That I am somehow devoid of the ability to feel. I am not able to express it, excluding the fits of rage. Those fits others believe appear out of nowhere or nothing. I have had many times people ask me "what the hell is wrong with you?" My response is always to just sit and stare off. I don't have words to answer this. People think that I am not aware when I am being made fun of, disrespected or ignored. I am aware. I internalize and analyze and understand that I do not fit in this world. I belong somewhere else.

@practicalIdeal2007 Aww that sounds so harsh :( *offers safe hugs*

I mean, it can be hard for some people to really grasp this and ignorance can really be harsh. On the other hand, I am here, and many others are here and, while I may not perfectly understand the way you feel or what you are going through, I am always glad to listen and you are doing a really good job explaining it you know! heart

I am wondering if you could maybe write things down. Considering you have someone you feel like you can trust that is. As you have said it you may not have many people close to you but maybe someone around you who is caring for you. I mean, some people can really be surprising when you reach out for help in a way that they can be there even if they seemingly have no reason to do so. Or at least sometimes it feels like for me.

I mean, I do not know, but I know that I would really miss you if you would leave for somewhere else you know. I mean, you are really an awesome and caring person and someone I am just glad that I have got to know here :)

@practicalIdeal2007

I relate a lot to what you've shared. I've had a hard time believing that things will get better too. I guess I'm starting to see improvement with some things, but others seem like I will just have to accept that I may always be a certain way. I'm trying to see if I can find a way to work with it. Some days I think I can, and then others I find it too difficult to not compare myself to others and wish things couldn't just be simpler. Then I realize that doesn't get me anywhere, but I guess I don't know how to accept myself and still fit into society.

I get the escape feeling. It's really good that you're not wanting to experience the escape by resorting to coping methods that hurt you. Do you think there are positive things you can do that might make you feel that relief like escape? I'm thinking about when I feel that way, and I think I want to escape because I feel chaotic like a puppet at the mercy of others/life/fate/etc. It's helped me somewhat with this feeling to find things that I can do for myself that I have some say in. Like I'm taking back my life. So like if there's a situation I'm in that's not healthy, then I try to see if there are steps I can take to get myself out, like work toward finding a new job or place to live, etc. Or sometime it's just escaping by letting myself play a video game for a bit or something.

I'm struggling a lot right now with how I relate to other people, my communication skills and feelings around them. I tend to get in a lot of trouble with people because of my lack of facial expressions, or I don't respond to things as they expect me to or as others would. I often think I'm a cold person, or like sometimes I want to cry but can't. I wish I had some more positive words for you on this topic. I'm feeling a bit sad about it and trying to figure it out. I guess I'm thinking about trying to start therapy to see if I can get some answers.

I think you did really great talking about what you're thinking and feeling.

Hi Ideal 👋

Wow, I think it was very brave of you to try to express yourself today! I think I can relate to some of the things you are saying. I too used to try to cope by trying not to think, but I could never get it to work very well for me either.

There was a long time when I could identify my feelings and use descriptive words but I could not experience the feelings themselves. Its like I could tell you how I felt and I knew what I was saying was true but I couldnt actually feel it. I found that extremely frustrating as even when I was expressing myself, I never really got any emotional release because I couldnt feel my feelings. It was very confusing and extremely frustrating. And I couldnt cry. I mean I could faux cry but no tears would come. For years. Anyway, I dont know if thats similar to your experience or not, but I think I can understand where youre coming from. Sometimes it helps me to know Im not the only one and Im not alone.

I have what seems the opposite when it comes to feelings. I know that the feelings are there. It's as if I cannot properly process them. I think of it like a system error. Computers make sense to me, people do not. There is an error in the programing. The code is corrupted and there is no auto restore. My coding errors seem to be both within my DNA and my systematic thinking. I cannot read facial expressions or body language. I do not tend to have emotional responses to movies or books. They are simply information. I am able to connect with others personal experiences though. My outward expression of it tends to be stoic and people do not then believe I am able to feel. It is so hard to explain.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with me. I hope that your day is going well.

Hey Ideal,

Thank you for clarifying for me what you meant. I still can relate to a certain degree to some of the things youre saying. Such as feeling like your feelings dont process or not having an emotional response to something that other people do. I have definitely experienced that in the past. It is getting better, I used to be really numb Most of the time which also made it very hard to feel connected to anyone or anything, but as Im on my path to healing and I gradually am feeling a little more bit by bit, its getting easier.

I actually did have a pretty good day today, thank you. That was thoughtful of you to say. I hope your day went as well as it can for you. I understand that sometimes when were struggling really hard there is no such thing as a good day but I hope its the least hard as it can be for you. If that makes any sense!

Hi I guess I mis-posted when I meant to post here...Getting used to posting again. So sorry about the mis-posting.

In dealing with C-PTSD and not able to be completely free of the longest term abuser; that will come when I'm able to function. I've found myself so disturbed by my short term memory loss. (This isn't memories directly involving abuse/assaults that can blank out). This is trying to get through every day life, not functioning...putting paperwork aside and never finding it, setting clothing down and can't remember where it is, trying to pick up and do activities that I took for granted I knew how to do - are totally new to me and don't make sense, once I "refresh" on how to do them the the memory of ever having known how doesn't come back, and doesn't stay with me. I have to relearn later in the day, next day, next week if I try again. I have a tremendous amount of anxiety and stress trying to stay safe, along with severe insomnia that won't clear up, no matter all the sleep hygiene/CBT-I I've done (much of my assaults have happened in bed, so I understand my brain keeps me safe by keeping me awake). Does this working-memory loss happen to any of you? If I get to a "safe" point/place, does this short term memory start coming back, so I can function in daily life?

Hey there @WoodViolet *offering safe hugs*

We are so glad to have you here with us! heart

I do not have any experience with such memory loss sadly :(

I mean, neither am I a professional but as much as I know trauma can affect you in such ways but it can most likely be helped. With proper help and support, that is. Of course I know it is hard and there is not pressure on you, I mean, you have just reached out to us right here and I know how hard it can be and I am really admire you and I am proud of you for being so strong and brave to share all this with us! heart

For misplacing things it may be helpful to just have a set place for them. I mean, you can even mark it or write things down and have a list or a piece of paper with you to help you were to find things and where you have left off. Gaining back this sort of control can be certainly really hard in your life especially given your insomnia as well.

I mean, if anything I want you to know that we are here for you and, I know this is just over the internet, but we would be always glad to hear from you or just have you here with us or just whatever you are feeling comfortable at the moment. I mean, if you feel like that we usually have nice and safe pillow forts as well to just hide away from the world and you are always welcome there as well! ^-^

I do hope to hear from you again sometimes :)

Hi Violet. Thank you for sharing so much with us. I do hope that things will improve for you very soon. Trauma can definitely have an impact on memory. Sometimes, forgetting details, related to specific events is our brain's way of protecting ourselves. Acute stress could also contribute. Have you consulted with a specialist regarding the short-term memory loss? I'm sure it's making everyday life much more difficult.

I hear you, you've tried various methods on how to improve your sleep but it looks like nothing is working right now. You are right, it could be that your brain is trying to protect you by keeping you awake since the trauma has happened in bed. Could you tell me what do you think might make your room/bed seem safer? Sometimes adding new safe items could help, some comforting music, nice scents like lavender, etc.

I hope you will feel better soon.

We are here with you. Stay strong <3

Hi

I think overall the week has been ok. I had a melt down yesterday and today all of my self care techniques don't really seems to be touching this deep weight I am feeling. Does that ever happen to anyone else? Techniques don't work anymore? Hard to keep my head up (literally): no spoons.

Im sorry your self-care techniques were not working. I have experienced something similar. Sometimes things work for a little while and then stop working. Then for a while things were so intense that almost everything everyone suggested to me didnt work. They were very few things that could even come close to touching the level of pain I was in. Still everyone always recommends I journal and that doesnt work for me at all. But I find that as I have better days, more technics start to work for me. Sometimes the only thing that would help me was a big, long hug from my mom.

We are really glad to have you here with us! heart

I am glad to hear that you have had an okay week but I am really sorry to hear about that meltdown yesterday. It can certainly hard to come back from those and it usually take a bit of time. I think the best you can do at these times is just make sure that you do take the best care of yourself, both physically and mentally if possible. I mean, really, just small things and make sure you do not push yourself and, also, just try to get some sleep if you can :)

What kinds of self-care methods work for you usually? I mean, maybe it would be worth to try and see if you can do some of those as well as they may be still helpful even if not as effective as usually. :)

Either way tho, we are here for you and together we can get through this. I believe in it anyways and I believe in you! ^-^

Hello Red,

I always enjoy your posts as they are so positive and encouraging. They make me feel cared about. I also love the GIF of the cat. It made me laugh a little. :-)

Self-care...hmm, I have traditionally been very bad at that but I am improving. With the cold weather here, I like to turn on my electric blanket and then snuggle into my bed. It is so nice to be warm.

Its hard for me to remember this week, but thats pretty normal for me. I know that Ive had some genuinely good moments, which is relatively new for me. But awesome. I also know that Ive been having a lot of flashbacks lately. And theyve been kinda more intense than some of the ones I used to have. I am still trying to sort through what really happened versus my internal fears at that time. And also to try to come to terms with some of the things that I think likely may have happened to me. It was all such a long time ago… But its amazing how much it can hurt still. Sometimes the pictures in my mind are so vivid, and it hurts so much it almost takes my breath away. But Im working on it and I am seeing improvement in my life overall so I hope/think that trend will continue.

It is so awesome to have you here with us! heart

Aww, that is so nice of you to say! Thank you very much, I am happy if I can make someones day even just slightly better :)
And that cat was my spirit animal on Friday when I have got home at the night :P

Electric blankets are awesome! I used to have one as well buuut I don't know where it is. I mean, either way, I like to just snuggle up in my bed as well, optimally with my teddy bear, and just probably watch some movies or so. :)
You know, I am not the best at self-care either but I think it is really awesome that you are trying your best to improve it and this is certainly a really nice step towards it and I am really proud of you for it! ^-^

I am glad to hear that you have had some good moments like that this week, it is always really nice to have those and I hope you will have more of those as time passes. :)

Working out the trauma you have been through is always hard but I am really glad to hear that you are having the feeling of progression in your life, it is just always so awesome to hear! heart

I think the fact that more and more details come up in this flashbacks means that you are doing a good job as well although it may not be the reward you have been looking for. The brain can be a really interesting thing it can seal away memories that it feels like you could not be able to handle and the fact that it is revealing more can be because you are getting stronger and stronger. Of course it is hard and you do not have to do this alone. We are all here for you and also, it may worth to consider professional help as well, if you really want to work this whole thing out it can be realy helpful anyways, but there is no pressure of course.

For now just take your time and make sure to give yourself the time and space when you feel like it is needed. Also, it may be useful if you have someone you could just call - or chat with - sometimes so you can work through this together. Or at least in my experience having someone with you on this journey makes things just much more bearable :)

Stay strong and awesome! heart

@Forgive2Live

Hi there, dear. I'm sorry Sunday nights have you worked up for the upcoming week. Do you think there is something you could do to stay grounded and distracted? I'm sure it is very hard to always have our mask on and not show our true emotions at work. It's definitely tiring.

Not knowing what works anymore could be very discouraging but guess what - we can keep trying and trying, finding new things that work, finding ways to soothe ourselves - I know it's tiring but I truly and wholeheartedly believe in you. We are here with you and I'm hoping this next week won't be as tough.

Is there someone at work who you trust enough to share with them how you're feeling when things get rough?

Take good care.

Hi Rebeka! I hope you'llbe able to get some rest soon. I know it could be scary when we feel like no one would truly " get us " and that could sometimes make us feel more reluctant to share.We are here for you and if you need to talk, you'll be heard. *safe hugs* I hope you have a lovely week.

Hey there @Rebekahwriter13 *offering safe hugs*

We are so glad to have you here with us! heart

I am sorry to hear that you are feeling tired like that. I hope you will be able to have some rest and sleep and recharge a little bit through this weekend! :)

It can be certainly scary to feel like you are alone and you may be like that forever. I have been feeling like that a lot as well. I mean, the thing is, I still feel like people do not exactly get me at times but I am always surprised on how much some people try to do so and just be there. I mean, that actually helps. It helps me that even if they may not get me completely I know that they care and I know that they are there to listen and here me, even if they may not know what to say but just having people there helps a lot. I do believe that there are people like that out there and I do believe that you can find people like that as well! :)
I mean, for a starter, I would be glad to liste anytime here as well! ^-^

Stay strong and aweosme! heart

@redmark

I appreciate your feedback. It is really nice to be heard without having my mood swings go crazy.

I am usually a problem solver and doer and this venting to me does not feel like enough but I do not know what to do.

@redmark

Hiya, Red, thank you for the amazing thread!
My week has been going rather well, I had a nice relaxing day at home yesterday and I'm running some errands today. How have you been? How was your week?
My self-care methods include going for a nice hike ( I live next to a hill, perfect for hiking with a few levels of difficulty ) , walking in the forest while just observing the nature, listening to some nice music at home, talking to a friend, writing in my journal. Anything that makes me feel at peace and takes my mind off things and lets my mind and body relax.

Hey there @Ayla *offering safe hugs*

We are so glad to have you here with us! heart - Also, I love that little ghost! ^-^

I am glad you have liked this thread and thank you! :)

I am happy to hear that you have had such a nice week and even a day for yourself like that to get some rest. My week, well, it is stressful, to say the least but I would say I am dealing with it okay-ish so far :)

I like to take walks and actually I have close-ish a national park - with some hills too - to just go for a walk in the nature, although I am usually taking my headphones with me as well because at this point music has really just got such an esential part of my life. :)
Writing a journal sounds really awesome as well and something I always want to start to do but never really get into it. I mean, either way, I am glad to hear that you are taking such a good care of yourself! :)

Stay awesome! heart

Hi , @redmark ! heart

*Safe hugs back at you*

Thank you for your reply.

I can see the thought and compassion you put into your replies and it really makes me happy to read them. I'm sorry this week has been stressful but I am proud of you for dealing with it okay so far.

Music is an essential part of my life too - every song means something to me and I can't spend a day without listening to at least a few.

What type of music do you like?

Journaling can be lots of fun! Maybe buying a nice notebook could inspire you to start writing if you ever feel like it.

Stay awesome as well and I hope to see you around heart

@Ayla Now this is where I usually surprise some people you know :P

I mean, I do listen to all kinds of music but my favourite type or the one I usually get back to are metal songs, "extreme metal" songs, although that definition of a genre just sounds weird to me.

Anyways, what I mean is melodeath metal and some more technical progressive metal bands. I mean, like Rivers of Nihil, Ne Obliviscaris, Persefone and such.

For Melodeath I think Omnium Gatherum is the band that I am most in love with currently! :)

What kind of music do you like?

@redmark

I don't know why but for some reason that did surprise me a little :P

I do like some good metal from time to time, too.
I listen to all kinds of music, really. Various genres, as long as I like the song itself, I'm fine with it.

@Ayla I know, I guess it is not really what someone would expect form someone "soft-spoken" - as someone once put it - as I am but still. I mean, I guess I have got to this point with time with starting less havier, less agressive metal songs, building up some "tolerance" to the harsh vocals for example that can really turn down some peopel and in the end I have actually started to enjoy it. :)

But yep, generally I do listen to all kinds of genres as well I just found that these metal songs are what I usually end up getting back to again and again :)

Hey there @wittySpruce8187 *offering safe hugs*

We are glad to have you here with us! heart

I am sorry to hear that you have to deal with cramps, those are never fun. I do hope you will get better soon! :)

Oh, that meeting sounds stressful for sure with so many things to prepare. I mean, I am sure you will do well tho, I mean, I do beleive in you anyways. Also, I think this time of the year, with Thanksgiving, is usually busy for a lot of people so that it is understandable that you were not able to maybe stay on top of everything :)

Seeing some friends sounds really nice, I am glad to hear that you have been able to catch up with some friends like that today! ^-^

Oww, yep, winter holidays. I mean those can certainly be....interesting. I mean, interesting in either way, good or bad, but I do hope you will have a nice one this year and you will be able to get some rest as well! :)

Stay awesome! heart
