Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in Thursday 28th June
Hey guys happy Thursday!!!, so recently I found one of my old diaries and I was reading through it and it reminded me about all the issues I had when I first started dealing with trauma. A big thing I forgot about it is at first it can be hard to find out what your triggers are it took me so long to figure out what triggered me and what didn't and just finding that difference between what part of the thing that happened set off triggers and it's easier for some than it is for others I really do understand that.
Triggers vary from person to person some people might have like one or two triggers where other have like three or four it depends on the person. One of the hardest parts of nailing down what your triggers is made even more difficult because anythign could be a trigger a sound, smell. something you see or just something that makes you think of a certian thought which you then connect to the trauma you have been through. When trying to find your triggers my best tip is after you've completely calmed down get some paper and make note of what you were doing the sounds you could hear, what you could see and what you were thinking it might not seem extremely relevant but even the slightest thing could be a trigger.
With all that said I hope you enjoy your Thursday, I know this might not be widely helpful but finding out what your triggers are is so so important and so horrible constantly being caught off guard.
This is a safe space to share what you want and I'd love to hear your stories with finding your triggers if you've discovered them, how did you figure out what they are? in what form are those triggers? visual?, aural? and how you've found a way to cope with them?
*HUGE KASS HUGS FOR ALL*

Hi Kass
I am having trouble identifying my triggers. I know one of my triggers, shouting and aggressiveness. It took a long time to identify it, I only realised after I had moved out of my parents house, I was so used to it happening that I didn't connect it before. I realised when I wasn't constantly exposed to it that I got worse when it happened. I am still figuring out how to cope when I am triggered.
Today has been ok, no triggers so far.
Love and hugs
@Softwhispers
I find that I have a lot of triggers but not all of them make sense to me. Some are new too, things like sudden noises trigger me know. They never did before. Or I can't remember they did anyway.
It could be a bird that just decides to start singing suddenly. Or a bee flying by. It is really anoying to be so jumpy. I get upset before I have a chance to think about what happend and I act up. I am frustrated with people all the time. I don't recognise myself. I am turning into my dad.

@Softwhispers hey soft, its lovely to see you doing todays check in
i hope youre having a lovely rest of the day and week!
I got a raise. Itll be on tomorrows paycheck. For a normal human being, that would be a good thing. For me, it sent me into full on panic mode. I have public aid. If I have to submit my pay stub with my raise on it, I wont qualify anymore. I cant afford anything more than what I pay for my Medicaid. The benefits offered through my company are way too expensive. Theres nothing I can afford through the marketplace. My therapist is $150/week without insurance. And thats not even including the meds and the twice a year doctor's appointments I need so I can keep my meds. I cant afford to get a raise. I cant. This is horrible. I need my meds. I need my therapist. I need my Medicaid in order to keep my therapist and my meds.
@BeeLeigh It sounds stressful Bee. I am sorry you are having a hard time. But panic is not really a good advicer. I don't know your laws and regulations but I am sure you could get someone to look into it with you. See if maybe you could use that raise to pay off a bit more of your student loan for example. You obviously deserve a raise. Maybe you can work an hour less a week. Or 2. I am sure there are solutions. But first thing is to keep breathing. 💖
Sometimes movies I used to watch with my family trigger me or movies of familys where the mom and daughter work through thier problems. Also when my bf says something on a topic i feel really strongly about and it is contrary to what i always thought he believed or lived by ect. It makes me feel like ive been fooled all this time and not sure what to believe now.
