Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in Thursday 3rd August 2017
Greetings all!
It's Mellio and I here today. Recently we had a conversation about this journey we're on.. the one that in the aftermath of trauma we find ourselves on...the one we share in common here. Can be called healing or recovery, and we likened it to a marathon. Have you ever run a marathon, have you ever wanted to run a marathon, maybe you are on one now.
In wise words from Mellio :"The effort to keep moving is unbelievable. Recovery is a marathon, not a sprint, so you have to pace yourself. We are so conditioned to sacrifice or punish ourselves at the expense of our wellbeing that it can be hard to be patient and mindful of our limits. Its like physio - rebuilding physical trauma has to be done at an incremental pace otherwise you risk reinjuring yourself. The 'perfectionist inner critic' wants us to move at a sprinter's pace.Which is doomed to failure and disappointment. Which again feeds into deeply ingrained patterns. A key may be to test your mind and body and respect your limits, as you push them."
As is with a marathon we can train, have a coach, and a crew of supporters on the sideline cheering us on and picking us up when we stumble, encouraging us to go on.Some days keeping going means just keep breathing.
"Just remember - if you think you are moving slower than you should, then you are moving at the right pace. This is a marathon, not a sprint."
How are you doing today? What's your pace like? What helps you to keep moving? Any tips on running this marathon? There is a crew here with a lot of experience and resources amongst us. We are here with you in this safe place. Luv Mellio and Rozie
Woken up earlg this morning by a thunderstorm :( also, forgot to eat supper last night (oops). Need to drink more water too. Generally anxious this morning. Can't remember having any nightmares though, so that's one victory heh. 🙃
Please help me today cuz I can't stop crying and I'm at work and I wanna go home cuz I can't keep it together today and idk what to do

@BeeLeigh o Bee i feel you on the not wanting to be at work.. Can you speak to someone and leave? Or even take a break and go walk and get fresh air? Hugs. You are not alone. X
@BeeLeigh Deep, cleansing breath, Bee -- you're not alone, you're safe. And there's a blanket fort up and ready whenever you can make your escape for sanctuary. x
Adding to the crap work day had to go back to wards n almost melt down on ICU cos of the bleeping and the smell. Made it out and then realised in afternoon was the most senior pharm left as everyone had leave or was off. Ended up with ICU and paeds pagers and sending juniors around to sort a brewing discharge crisis. It wasnt safe and im in again tomorrow leading a weekend shift and going back to icu. I dont feel particularly safe let alone making decisions ffor others and anyone who i can ask for help is off. Its my own fault and if i dont get sleep iv no one else to blame.
This is a stupid situation and i want out.
@inventiveOrange1 Aw Orange what a day...my heart goes out to you. Right now, you're done for the day, thank goodness, and can seek sanctuary (and wine and cookies) in the blanket fort. At this precise moment, you are safe. x Focus on self care and soothing as best you can because you deserve it. 💕

@inventiveOrange1 @TreesandWine The fort is up. @BeeLeigh, get in here too. Sounds like you really need it. ⛺⛺⛺
