Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in: Thursday February 7th

Happy Thursday Trauma Community!
Those of you who have been part of this community for awhile know that we have spoken a lot about boundaries in these check-ins in the past. Having firm boundaries helps us protect ourselves and stay safe from triggers. Boundaries can also help us know when we need to self-care or spend more time focusing on our own well-being.
- What is one line or boundary you have in place right now to ensure you are feeling safe, comfortable and cared for?
- How are you feeling so far this week?
- What is one small goal you can set for yourself to achieve in the coming week?

Hi Kate,
My boundary that keeps me safe is to only have limited email (as little as necessary) with my abuser. I still do get hurt from them, but it is far better than phone or in person.
I'm feeling very low. I wish I could say feeling good - as I just completed a session of yoga (exercise and self-care) but don't feel any better. The lack of sleep has to be intruding on my perspective. At least 3 nights this week, I have just dozed and was awake again, the other nights I managed to get about 2 hrs. each. I am an anomaly where insomnia is concerned, I should just crash and sleep for many hours, oh how I wish I could!!! That would improve so many things.
Without sleep, there isn't clear thought, there isn't working memory, there isn't learning, and there isn't energy, which is necessary for me to look forward to my future! I need a respite from my surroundings - that is my goal for my health - I just have't figured out how to make it happen.
@WoodViolet
Hi Violet, sleep is important and I am sorry you're having some struggles. Yoga is an amazing way to relax and care for our body and soul, no doubt. Have you tried physically exhuasting yourself? When I was struggling to sleep, I ran couple miles and went to bed. Maybe I am just that out of shape but when I do some heavy duty running, I become really sleepy. Then again it might just be me!
@Jackie
Hi Jackie,
Thank you for your running idea. When I feel better, maybe I can add a bit of running.
On weeks when I steadily get 2hrs sleep a night my body has adapted to that and I can do more exercise and it in turn helps me be sleepy enough to in turn get those 2 hrs. I know that sounds odd because I feel it being odd at 2 hrs.
Thank you again for your thoughtful insight!
@Kate
hi Kate!
- What is one line or boundary you have in place right now to ensure you are feeling safe, comfortable and cared for?
My current and perhaps only boundary I have in place is to take smaller bites. When I have too much on my plate I tend to become very restless. When I work my mind and move around seemingly all day, I become vurnerable to my past memories. I realized I need a lot of self-care do keep myself in safe place. Knowing my limit, knowing when to walk away have been helping me keep myself feeling safe.
- How are you feeling so far this week?
This week went well minus 2 of my senior dogs becoming ill. They both lived a very happy and long life but it's still difficult to put their health aside. I went to the vet twice this week for both dogs and having really hard time preparing their entrance over the rainbow. Knowing my track record, I will forever keep buying time by some sort of intervention but it may not be possible this time around.
- What is one small goal you can set for yourself to achieve in the coming week?
I have not gone that far yet! But I would like to continue eating healthy next week. Possibly next month too. :-)
One boundary I am setting for myself is this: be vulnerable, because vulnerability is how we connect and grow, but do not allow myself to be stepped on.
So far this week I feel pretty overwhelmed-- I've done a lot! I had my first networking meeting, worked at my new job, tried escargot for the first time, and hosted relatives for a visit! I'm just now getting to catch up. I feel good, though. I feel very good this week.
Next week, a small goal I will set for myself is to do my yoga every day. I have so many things I need to do, that's the least I can do for myself to keep myself energized and rejuvinated.
one boundary i have is to not spend too much time alone, because that's when i feel unsettled and get anxious and depressed. if i need to, i force myself to get out and around people, just to calm my mind.
it was a rough day for me today. lots of stress and i'm feeling pretty unsettled. i'm trying to practice self-compassion and allow my mind to calm down.
Hello.
I dont know. Sorry.
I am scared. Sometimes nothing in life seems the way I thought it was before. Sometimes thats a good thing but it can also be overwhelming and confusing.
I want to learn how to believe good things about myself I think, but it sounds so frightening to. It was so many years ago… But still I feel scared. I could just happened. Even though it was a long time ago. Trauma and PTSD are confusing. I dont like not understanding what Im thinking or whats happening in my own mind. Sorry.
I know the feeling... luckily Im doing some processing and getting some help.
Mare you?
@Idkme2
Thank you.
Yes, I am. I have a really good therapist. Still scary though.
@pioneeringBanana1598
one thing that has helped for me is to think before you say sorry.... do you really need to say it... can you take a challenge and twist it to a thank you....
ie someone might say hows your day you might think its been crappy sorry, and instead you could think its been crappy but thanks for asking.
its just a small simple mindset shift that has helped me sometimes.... it doesnt work always.
Its those little things that change us from being hidden in a dark corner under the blankets to a glimmer of a glimpse over the sheets to see that there is actually some light there and not everything is dangerous and dark....
feed the wolf you want to befriend..... 🐺
@Idkme2
I used to love wolves as a kid! I had a pretty serious wolf stuffed animal collection. 🐺❤️
And thanks.
@pioneeringBanana1598
maybe you can started feeding your good wolf again... what things do you dobthat can help with that?
@Idkme2

- How are you feeling so far this week? Honestly, horrible it's my anemia and my last four doctors do NOT want to do what I need to be done to completely cure it.
- What is one small goal you can set for yourself to achieve in the coming week? Fix my story and fix my pop ups on my computer
